It's going to be an awful trade unless Moses Brown becomes the second coming of his namesake (I guess he has the rebounding down already?).

I've been saying this for years - Ish smith would be perfect for this team.  Is quick, plays tenacious defense, can take guys off the dribble and, most importantly, distributes the ball.  And he can probably be had for cheap this year.

Tough to sell to a fan base that wants its team to get bigger.

I can deal with this defensive effort:

Brad's getting the band back together.

Would be hilarious if he went out and signed IT, then made a trade with Houston to bring back Bradley and Olynyk.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Serious question:

Did Brad consult Jayson and Jaylen before making this trade?  My guess is that he did.  The new NBA mindset; treat your best players like they're your partners. The fact that Al is someone they both played for and (presumably) admired softened the blow of losing Kemba.

If Rob stays on the team with Moses .

This could be a lot of fun watching Pritchard working his bigs for buckets on the block …

Ok ,  I’m ready to start the season ..NOW !

Don't like the deal.  Trading 16 hurts.  This is not a top team in the East.  I'm normally a lot more positive but I just don't see how this deal makes us better.  Moses Brown is a long term backup and insurance if Timelord gets hurt.  Not a bad piece but not worth a 1st round pick.  I was really hoping the C's would draft a PG with 16.

More deals to be made.  They can resign Evan now if he wants to be here and probably use one of the lower level exceptions to sign a vet.

No assets to trade for a start like Beal. just a disappointing deal IMO.  If it was a lottery protected pick next year I'd be happier.  This is supposed to be a deep draft.  Hopefully the C's can buy a pick if a guy falls.

I have zero care about draft picks at this point

Celtics have gone to the ECF something like 3 times in the past 5 seasons.  We already have two stars under 25, as well as a number of talented young prospects with upside (Pritchard, Williams, Nesmith).

This team does not need to waste more time struggling whole we wait for another batch of young guys to become dependable.  We need to start competing.

Last season the team's defence and ball movement were utterly garbage.  Moving Kemba for horford immediately improves the team in both of those areas... Especially if it also means moving Smart to the starting PG spot.

If we can retain Fournier then we're potentially looking at a strong five of Smart, Fournier, Brown, Tatum and Williams with Pritchard, Langford, Nesmith, Horford and Moses coming in off the bench.  Then I expect we'll probably see another move out two to bring one or two solid productive guys to add to that second unit.

I think that's a more cohesive unit then what we had last season, and horford/ Moses provide some nice insurance for Williams who has been quite injury prone.

If nothing else we desperately needed a veteran presence in the locker room after how things were going this season. Al is a guy who the younger flows should respect and listen to.

Yes, and to add to this: look at ATL. Up 3-2 and a punchers chance now at the ECF. A team that has a young star (Trae) and near-star (Collins). But built around them with solid vets like Lou Will, Capela, Dwight… that team said, ok we have young talent, how much more of that do we need? Let’s just give Trae the keys and fill the gaps with solid players. Never mind the “timelines.”

Al could be useful in the court. Al could be very useful as a semi expiring contact at the deadline

Bringing Horford back helps us game plan vs Embiid next season. Al defended him decently.  Ditto Giannis.

Perk pretty much said that this morning on ESPN.

I think you have to look at the way this deal was structured and see that it created  financial room for a player not part of this deal. We don't know who that will be yet, but it should result in retaining another significant player. It might mean that we can keep Marcus Smart. It might mean something else.

Horford's lower salary, getting Moses Brown for under $2M per year, and not having to pay a #16 rookie has carved out space. Hopefully whoever fills it is also going to contribute.

Been a while since we ve seen a guy that long with seemingly unlimited energy.  He was beating everybody on both teams up and down court …..he just needs ALOT of coaching and rein in some energy … ;D

was adding a first really necessary for this?

Who is our starting PG now? PP? Please don't say Smart.

I've been furious with Smart this season, but after this move I actually don't mind Smart at PG *if* we start Horford and can retain Fournier.

With Fournier, Brown, Tatum and Horford on the court you have four capable scorers who can stretch the floor.  This means Smart now has ABSOLUTELY NO excuse to be forcing offense or forcing up bad threes - he can focus entirely on defence and playmaking, which IMHO is when he's at his best.

Horford is no longer a guy who will give you 15 a night, but with Fournier, Brown and Tatum out there at their current levels he wouldn't need to.  Hell be a playmaker in the paint, will provide quality interior defence, will stretch the floor, and can have the occasional strong offensive game once every 3rd night or so which will help make up for the times when one of the other guys has an off night.

I actually think this is a pretty optimal situation for both Smart and horford to be honest.

With Kemba gone it also means we can completely devote to building the team around Tatum and Brown as the centrepieces of the team, which should help wash away any ambiguity about their roles. This move firmly sets the tone that this is Tatum's and Brown's team now - no more deferring. Time for them to start stepping up and taking a leadership role.  Horford can help mentor them in to that role.

I did not like the idea of Brad taking over for Ainge, but I actually like this move...a lot.  One of our biggest issues this year was a complete lack of any identity.  I think the team's identity after this move it starting to become much clearer.

and look at his current deal... awesome

Player          Age   2020-21     2021-22           2022-23            2023-24

Moses Brown   21   $495,102   $1,701,593   $1,846,738   $1,997,718

And I agree with some folks stating that Moses Brown is easily the 16th pick (or better) of this years draft
