Sources: Both the Boston Celtics and Kemba Walker want a breakup. The team tried trading him once in 2020, and it put a strain on the relationship since then.

A source close to Walker said he was hurt by Boston's efforts to trade him, which created a rift in the Walker-Ainge relationship. Walker has a great relationship with his teammates and looked forward to being a veteran mentor to Tatum and Brown, but the same can't be said about Walker and the front office. He no longer feels wanted.

Walker is upset with Ainge but Ainge is no longer GM. So...? Who's Kemba upset with?

Regardless of feelings regarding Danny, Kemba needs to take accountability for not playing up to his contract.

Exactly. Brad Stevens has also been the biggest Kemba supporter the past few seasons.

It's almost like this was written before Ainge stepped down.

One executive in the NBA said Walker isn't the only player to have those negative feelings toward Ainge, as players around the league have not trusted Celtics management during the Ainge era. Perhaps the most telling public example of that reputation came when Anthony Davis' father said he would never want his son to play for the Celtics after how they handled Isaiah Thomas' injury and departure.

He had to be because he was the coach and the team needed Kemba to perform. Now that he's the GM, the viewpoint needs to change.  First priority is getting that contract off the books.  This team really can't start to move forward until that happens - but I also have a feeling most fans aren't going to like the deal that eventually gets made.

Once the glass fractures, you can still see it even if it is being held together by glue.

At least we likely know Kemba is gone one way or another. I dont think they were going to get much for him anyways. Hoping they get some depth pieces at least.

I saw that post too, but I think the whole ‘report’ is rubbish.

When a non-reputable journalist publishes an insider report without listing their source, it’s worthless information in my eyes.

Kemba asking for a trade is the best scenario to move on from him without reinforcing the negative stereotype the franchise currently has among a segment of the players. He’s going to be a great player for a team that can withstand his lack of defense and need his brand of offense (Lakers, Clippers, Sixers, Pelicans).

This team needs veteran role players, not necessarily scorers, that can be steady in the playoffs in a tertiary role on offense and solid on defense. Kyle Lowry, Larry Nance Jr, Ingles, and Utah Bogdanovic spring to mind as great pickups that won’t break the bank to acquire.

If this is the case, inform Jayson and Jaylen on the situation and trade him to a team that simultaneously gives us a solid offer and Kemba will be happy going to.

When did they try to trade Kemba? And for whom?

This sounds like speculation/extrapolation more than real facts.  He reportedly has great relationships with his teammates (the guys he interacts face-to-face with and spends time with daily) but has an issue with upper management (who he needs to interact with on a much rarer basis), so that means he doesn't like this situation and wants to be traded to a new one?  That just doesn't add up to me.

Apparently Ainge tried to trade him for Jrue Holliday last off season.

I also find some of the comments from 'sources' comical. If Kemba feels so hurt, maybe he's willing to forfeit $20 million of his guaranteed pay for next season and waive his player option for the following year - then they won't be quite as anxious to deal him. $16 million is about what he's worth right now on the open market - if that.

So a Clippers beat writer has the inside scoop on Kemba, who’s never lived further west than Charlotte?  Beyond Nic Batum, it’s tough to imagine who his source could even potentially be.  Clippers seem to have no one other than Batum who could conceivably be close to Kemba (and I don’t know how close they are or not), and the Celtics have no one that would likely have connections to this writer.

Feels like an odd piece.  Best I’ve got is that the Celtics and Clippers talked about a Kemba trade at some point, and he ran with the story.

rumors were Ainge tried to trade Kemba to move up in the 2020 draft and then use picks for Holliday
