Is Rondo considering retirement?  Doesn't he have another year on his contract?

I for one would be very interested in hiring him. But I doubt Brad would. If Danny were still the President and Brad no longer coach, it would be such a Danny move to hire Rondo as HCBC.

Yeah but he could just retire ... and sign as a coach

Maybe Celts would need to send a 2nd or something small

Even though Brad and Rondo ... it wasnt ideal. Rondo has "grown up".  Brad might think he is just what the doctor ordered for the team

What I worry about is... does he know how to build a team/patience.   He is elite in Xs and Os...but after bad loss ... it could get ugly. Rondo is a fiery guy
not sure why there is all this love for rondo, who has made himself unpopular on a number of teams and management teams.

why bring in someone with no experience in coaching, talent evaluation, drafting, scouting, and more when you a brand new team president, one who is new to the position?

asking both coach and president to learn on the job might be good if you are a lottery team. you would lose anyway, so why not develop from within?

but the celtics need a more stable and experienced coach right now.

agreed it would be risky

I'm indifferent

Looks like the only thing that can stop Becky Hammon from being the next HC of the Celtics is Becky Hammon preferring to wait for the Spurs job.

Brad is going to talk to Pop....Pop will probably recommend her or tell Brad she is off limits.

It’s her job if she wants it.

Unless Pop retires this summer, if the Celtics offer her the job, she will take it. No waiting around. Her first HC opportunity for the Boston Celtics? Are you kidding me?

I'd like to find out why everyone says she will make a great head coach.  Working with Pops obviously helps.  But Pops is bigger than life, personality wise.  The Pops Coaching Tree is pretty impressive, but no guaranty.

I can see Rondo as a head coach with no experience taking over a veteran team that’s trying to win before their window closes. He could keep the stars in line, draw up ATO plays, and jump on the refs when they need it. He would have assistants handling the rest.

The Celtics are not that team yet. They’re still young and need a coach that can develop their games and lead them past frustration. Rondo might be a good off court strategist, but I think he needs to spend time as an assistant before he’s able to lead a team with developing superstars that still need a coach that can get them to their ceilings. Someone that’s - been there, done that - but can still teach. I don’t remember Rondo teaching, he’s more - do it my way.

Sam or Chauncey sound like good choices to me. Juwan too, but I doubt he’s ready to leave Michigan until he wins an NCAA title, as another poster mentioned.

Yeah that doesn't make it easier to get a good coach.

It will be interesting how it plays out

If the president or gm pursues the candidate hard. Coach gets some leverage.  More years/money/ and other power ....  Brad knows first hand

Clifford reached the playoffs four times in eight seasons between his two head-coaching jobs in Charlotte and Orlando. Two of the worst franchises in the NBA. Would have made it again this year but for the injuries then the blow-up at the trade deadline. Well-respected.

Not true.  Rondo has been a good mentor for younger players.  People portray Rondo as a selfish me-first player.  He's actually a hard-nosed ultimate team player.  Coaching up young players.  Calling out stars when necessary.  Below are some quotes from an excellent Jackie Mac article on Rondo.
https://africa.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/30023849/nba-finals-rehabilitation-rajon-rondo

Quote
BEFORE THE 2016-17 season, Rondo's longtime agent, Bill Duffy, was worried. "We had nothing," he admits. Duffy finally convinced Chicago Bulls general manager John Paxson to speak with famed Bulls international scout Ivica Dukan. Dukan's son, Duje, had played in Sacramento with Rondo the previous season, and Duje had raved about Rondo's impact on the young Kings players, so the Bulls gave Rondo a one-year audition.

For 21-year-old Bobby Portis, it was a career-changing moment. Rondo took him to dinner, patiently answered all of his questions and pored over game film with him. When Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade publicly torched the team's young players after a loss, Rondo charged to their defense, questioning Butler and Wade's leadership in an Instagram post.

"It was really cool for him to take up for us," Portis says. "Every locker room needs someone who isn't scared of confrontation."

Quote
RONDO SIGNED WITH New Orleans in 2017-18, his fifth team in four seasons. Veteran Jameer Nelson, who spent the first half of that year on the Pelicans, marveled at Rondo's preparation, growing accustomed to receiving texts at 2 or 3 a.m. with stream-of-consciousness basketball ideas.

"Rondo will challenge everyone -- coaches, teammates, the front office," Nelson says. "But never once was it, 'We need to do X, Y and Z to make me look better.' It was about getting the best out of the team."

That included a young Davis, who despite his abundance of talent had been to the playoffs only once. Rondo made it clear he needed to do more.

"He was a huge help coaxing AD into the next gear," Gentry says. "He'd say, 'Man, you're better than this. We need more. You have to play to a level where you help us win games."

Quote
The Lakers cited Rondo's IQ when they signed him, then quickly learned his willingness to challenge the best was an unexpected bonus. Amid a frustrating 2018-19 season, Rondo noted James souring on the young players and immediately confronted him.

"When guys are making the same mistakes over and over and over, it's hard to bite your tongue," Rondo says, "but I tried to get [James] to focus on his body language.

"Those young guys were looking at everything he did. If they missed four shots in a row and LeBron was making a face, it was crushing to them. He was their Michael Jordan. They didn't want to let him down. But if LeBron said one thing positive to Brandon Ingram or Kyle Kuzma, they immediately were back to their old selves."

TP. Thanks for posting these excerpts.  Before reading I was dubious of the “Rondo for HC” talk here.  Always wondered why “playoff Rondo” was a thing - glad he has an extra gear but what does it mean that he wasn’t using it during the season?

These stories of Rondos impact on young players, his investment in strategizing, and his apparently deep understanding of how to motivate — that all sounds good to me.

I don't understand all the interest in Kidd from several teams now. What exactly has he done in his two head coaching jobs to earn that? His teams in Brooklyn and Milwaukee were both disappointing despite having talent on the rosters, and he got fired from both jobs for losing too much.

Any reason to be worried about competition from the Blazers and Magic for our coaching hire? My thinking is the Cs position is much more desirable so we’ll have pick of the litter but just wondered if I’m overlooking anything.

The Magic?!? Nah, not at all. And Dame has gone on record advocating for Jason Kidd, and I honestly think we can do much better.
