According to Scalabrine on his Sirius show this morning, around the trade deadline, Ainge went to ownership and told them he was probably going to step down.  He said Wyc almost immediately went to Stevens and asked him about taking over for Ainge.  It wasn't until that conversation that Stevens even thought about it, but apparently it became a voice in his head and the more he thought about it the more he wanted to do it.  Stevens apparently didn't see a single one of his high school sons basketball games this year and that irked at him and Stevens believes the President job will provide him less travel and a bit more flexibility so he can be a better father.  Scal also said that this had nothing to do with money from the C's end.  That they love Stevens mind and think he will excel in this role.  Scal also thought Stevens would be in the job for over a decade (unless he just isn't any good, which he didn't think would happen).  Stevens is not just taking this as a stop gap and the C's weren't offering it to him as some sort of stop gap.  Everyone legitimately thinks this is a good idea and it has been in the works for months.  Scal also said Ainge was still going to be around for a couple of years and help out when asked or needed, including things like the pre-draft workouts.

I have no idea how tuned in Scal actually is, but it was a fascinating listen.

Scal also said that everyone, including the players, really respect and like Kara Lawson, so she will definitely be on the short list if she is interested.

After watching his commentary over the years, I don’t think Scal is very plugged in at all.

And according to another poster citing Danny, Kara Lawson has already been ruled out.

To be fair to what Scal reportedly said, it depended on if she was interested. Maybe she is ruled out already because she's committed to Duke and wasn't interested in the job.

It just shows he's not plugged in.  He's telling the world he thinks it's Lawson, that she's "definitely" on the short list if interested...  after she's already been ruled out.

Scal knows nothing, just like just about everybody in that studio.  None of those folks are insiders, and I wish they'd stop pretending to know what's going on.  Be like Mike Gorman, and give your opinion, but don't report things as facts that you have no idea about.

So unfair. I would love for Mark Jackson to be coach but I know he's blackballed for whatever reason.

Regarding Lawson, Jared Weiss wrote the same thing in the Athletic.

I don’t think Mark Jackson is blackballed.  I think he’s just too expensive.  He’s certainly well-compensated by ESPN, and it wouldn’t surprise me if his contract had a buyout that he’d want his new employer to take care of.  His prior coaching experience wasn’t terrible, but it probably wasn’t good enough to warrant making him a top-5 paid coach.

I like the idea of Chauncey Billups coming home.   He has the experience of a champion and he could get the respect of the other players as a former player himself.  Being a PG he should have an excellent understanding of running an NBA offense as well.  But that's just me.

I would love that but I don't think KG would do it.

Just watched presser and in talking about the new coach Brad was careful to be gender neutral.

So what ? Brad is neutral on all topics. He never wants to offend anybody. Part of the problem.

I would like it to be Hammon, but I think it'll end up being somebody that hardly anybody is thinking about right now.

I'd have no problem with this at all, and I'm included among those who stopped watching due to all the politicization.

I think Hammon could succeed. She fits the mold of the hard-hat, lunch pale carrying, blue collar Boston athlete -- at 5'6", she went undrafted only to become a 6-time WNBA all-star, and she then coached under Popovich for ~10 years.  And culturally, I don't see a woman coaching men to be an obstacle -- if anything, she would get favorable media coverage and treatment throughout the league.  I say more power to her and a uniquely fresh start to the Celtics' next chapter.

I love the basketball sensibilities of both Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy.

Terry Stotts was fired by the Blazers today. I wonder if he will throw his hat into the ring with all the other retreads going for the Cs coaching position
