Terry Stotts was fired by the Blazers today. I wonder if he will throw his hat into the ring with all the other retreads going for the Cs coaching position

Only way I can see that happening is...

He can bring Lillard to the Celts

The ultimate curveball: Danny Ainge as the next coach.

I was thinking the same thing.  It ends up that Danny and Brad just switch jobs.  Maybe that happens if the C's can't find a coach they like.
DA agrees to a 1 year deal.  It would never happen, but that would be really interesting.

As an assistant coach if we are not affraid about his will fi we get an unexperimented one as Cassel or Billups.

Still if CBS lost the players this year that means his assistants lost them too.  To me this rules them out.

It almost has to be a former NBA player.

Yes I think you are right. Virtual TP for you.

Only if it is Spoelstra it won't matter  ;D

My choices
1 Dream scenario Spoelstra don't see a windows soon and want to see something else. We give them 2 firsts for the contract. Unfortunately if it could happened it wouldn't have Stevens as GM bit with Ainge.  2 Sam Cassel  3. J Howard and no way anyone else I heard please

As much as I dislike him, Jason Kidd is someone who could look at Marcus Smart and say “You’re not a three-point shooter. Just stop.”

What’s interesting is that early in his career Kidd was not a good outside shooter. But in the latter half of his time as a player he turned into a fairly good shooter, but he would only shoot when wide open.

Smart would do well to follow that style. For his own good, his own contract negotiations, if Smart shot only 2-3 three-pointers a game, and only when wide open, and could average 40%, he’d make himself some $$.

Portland will move fast to get a new head coach. Damian Lillard expressed preference for Jason Kidd.  Read it is between Kidd and Billups.  If the Celtics want Billups, they may have to move pretty quickly.

Speaking of Billups, whichever team selects him will have to consider some blow back, given allegations of rape made many years ago, that was settled out of court.   I really like Billups, he's probably my first choice, but this will come up if/when he is discussed seriously as a potential candidate.

In regards to Juwan Howard. ... he is a Riley disciple.

And Reily and Ainge do not like each other... or there is history

Plus Howard coaches his sons at Michigan?

My prediction...I cant see him becoming the next Celts coach anytime soon.   I think he has tremendous presence and team 1st mentality.  But he probably stays at Michigan and wont consider leaving until after winning a national title

Rondo is an interesting candidate.  But the guy is also a know it all and has a sharp tongue. Already seen on display towards Ibaka and Leonard. He got his mins reduced recently....  He is a quick/adaptable strategist and good with younger players. He stood up for his teammates against Lebron a few years back.   He doesnt care who you are eh?

But if the Celts do sign Rondo as a coach. I wouldnt give him a long deal.  Like 3 years max

Jay Wright - I think he also has excellent presence.  One of the best coaches in college basketball.  Preaches physicality and team 1st mentality

With the current Celts roster.. its less about Xs and Os and getting the guys to buy in imo.  Wright could help stir the ship towards this direction

Is Rondo considering retirement?  Doesn't he have another year on his contract?

I for one would be very interested in hiring him. But I doubt Brad would. If Danny were still the President and Brad no longer coach, it would be such a Danny move to hire Rondo as HCBC.

Yeah but he could just retire ... and sign as a coach

Maybe Celts would need to send a 2nd or something small

Even though Brad and Rondo ... it wasnt ideal. Rondo has "grown up".  Brad might think he is just what the doctor ordered for the team

What I worry about is... does he know how to build a team/patience.   He is elite in Xs and Os...but after bad loss ... it could get ugly. Rondo is a fiery guy

I voted for Chauncey Billups.  He has the presence to command respect from day 1.

I hope he is good at Xs and Os.
I always felt Cs had the coaching edge at Xs and Os when Brad was roaming the lines

I also like Rondo.  I would keep and eye on Rondo.  He has the pedigree and from all accounts he knows Xs and Os...when playing on the floor.  I wonder if that translates to coaching, but wouldn't be surprised if it does.

As mentioned Scal thinks it will be Kara Lawson

She was well liked by the group (most still here)

She sounds like a strong speaker

Fantastic mesage. Celtics at times didnt even look like a "team" this past season.

This is awesome.  I want her as my coach!

not sure why there is all this love for rondo, who has made himself unpopular on a number of teams and management teams.

why bring in someone with no experience in coaching, talent evaluation, drafting, scouting, and more when you a brand new team president, one who is new to the position?

asking both coach and president to learn on the job might be good if you are a lottery team. you would lose anyway, so why not develop from within?

but the celtics need a more stable and experienced coach right now.
