Stephen A Smith apparently blasts Celts for not hiring a non white GM.

He was incorrect about Nash hiring btw. Non white coaches have been hired without coaching experience

I wish we'd hired somebody with proven experience.  Ujiri seemed like the best available candidate.

But, he would have cost a lot, and he would have eventually wanted to fire Brad, which would cost a lot.  So Wyc decided to hire a guy who was burnt out and has no executive experience.

I mean, it's laughable:  Wyc cited Brad's ability to recruit at Butler as evidence that he'll be a good executive.

Calling it now, Stevens will be back in college within 2 to 3 seasons. Don’t understand the move considering he has zero experience in being a GM. This seems to me that ownership just doesn’t want a complete overhaul as of yet. Change doesn’t always have to be bad so stop being afraid of it.

Wyc and other owners want to work with...with someone they trust. And wont start disclose secrets etc to Woj ... is my guess

Wyc still holds the cards on major signings and trades. Or he has to sign off

Brad is basically the new case study manager,  disaster control, Xs and Os knowledge fountain and visionary

I'm just glad that we got Brad out of the coaching staff. Hopefully our next HC will play a more balanced offence to get the most out of our talent. Big fan of what Budenholzer has done this season if he gets sacked (which is entirely possible if the Nets go white hot and memechuck their way to a victory in the second round).

At some point the question has to be asked? Is Wyc too cheap as an owner?

Didn't Ainge also have no front office experience when we hired him? Just because someone is inexperienced doesn't mean it won't work. I'll be optimistic until I have a reason not to be (like hiring Marc Jackson as coach ;D).

This is what I alluded to earlier.

Wyc and co. are being cheap as per usual, Ujiri is actually coming off contract soon if my memory is correct. But if they truely had any foresight Morey was just sitting there last off-season and is a ‘Celtic’ guy so to speak.

Looking forward to see what happens in the offseason and draft

Wyc sounds like he wants change... Brad now has to wear his GM hat

Lets see if he has the guts to trade Smart...for example

Be serious. He also said that coach and GM are two separate positions in Boston.

OK, everybody understand what that means, right?

Terrible day for C's.

Kind of inclined to agree, but I'm excited to see our new head coach.

I'm pretty apprehensive.  What qualifications does Brad have to choose that coach?  His assistants left a lot to be desired.  If he can't get his own staff right, I'm pretty worried about who he will select as a head coach.

I realise the conversation has evolved, but to reply hours later: I'm excited to see the change, but I'm not particularly high on the idea of Stevens as a GM. It's nervous excitement, rather than joy.

To put it another way: we may have lost a top-tier GM and a top-tier coach in one swoop. I still think they were both best at their roles when the expectations were lower.

To my mind, making this move so early on indicates (to me) that everyone involved looked at next season as kind of a wash (I wouldn't be surprised to see them run it back with 80% of the same roster based on cap), so I see this as necessary front office upkeep before they can start really retooling the roster this time in 2022.
