Stevens has been described as worn down with coaching since The Bubble, and welcomed the chance to make the transition to the front office, sources tell ESPN. Stevens will help lead the search for his successor as head coach.

Any frontrunners for head coach? Billups?

Unreal.  I'm not sure that giving the keys to the kingdom to a guy who is experiencing burnout (and who is underqualified) is in the team's best interests.

I've got to think that this is being done mostly due to money.  The team extended Brad, who has a lot of guaranteed salary left.  So, he gets moved up to a position he's not qualified for.

To be fair, he's been described as taking over basketball ops. We could very well still bring in an experienced GM for him to report to.

I doubt he’s going to experience a major change in salary — it’s unlikely he’s reporting to someone other than ownership.

Stackhouse maybe?

If we’re getting a former NBA star who’s a college coach, I want Juwan Howard.

Danny needed to step down as his time had come, but Stevens going up to replace him (or at least part of his role) is just a bad idea.  I'm inclined to agree with Roy that the primary motivation is money and the C's being cheap, but if Stevens really was burn out and needed a break, then just let him retire.  Then you don't pay him anyway.  I just don't understand the need to elevate him to the front office.  It just makes no sense.  You get rid of a good coach and put him in a role he isn't qualified for and then have no coach on the staff.  I'm guessing Billups or Stackhouse will be a leading candidate for the job, but then you have a totally inexperienced head coach (at least at the NBA level) and GM and the team is in a complete transition mode anyway.  Just not a good look.

Probably because he knows the team.  He may just be there just to help with the transition since he knows the players and such.

I'd want Adrian Griffin if we're going for an inexperienced candidate, he's an assistant coach for Nick Nurse and is highly regarded within the Raptors organisation.
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

The same Lloyd Pierce who was just fired, only to see his team go on an immediate and sustained hot streak?

I just hate Kidd on a personal level.  He was always one of the most hated opponents to play in Boston, and that was before the wife-beating episode.

When Ainge was hired for the role here he was coaching the Suns.  Danny did pretty well.  I'm sure Brad has more experience learning from Danny then Danny did when he was a coach.  It may fail or it may work.  Zarren will do the GM work.  Brad is a very organized and detailed person that will do well running basketball operations.  Hopefully Zarren is ready for the big show and hopefully the C's hire more scouts.

If we hire Lloyd Pierce or Kidd...I have serious doubts about this team's future.

A change was needed. I've been saying it for years that Brad doesn't have the ability to lead and control his team. I've seen too many games where it was nothing more than street ball being played rather than a disciplined offense. Seriously would love to know how many games we lost to forcing the bad 3 ball.

Now as far as him going into the front office, I don't have a great feeling about it. However, maybe he will better suited for that position.

A change needs to be made.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

I'm more talking about structure and responsibility.

blown away by this announcement.  surprised it happened so soon after the C's were knocked out but guess it gives the franchise time to organize before the draft and free agency happen.

Not optimistic about Brad in Danny's role.  he knows the personnel on the team which is a plus but struggling to come up with another positive point for promoting him.

New coach needs to be someone with some winning experience and a different offensive scheme than Brad which I'm not sure will be who we get.
