When it comes to the ability to trade Kemba, this seems like a legit option. Let’s face it, Kemba is basically a negative asset at this point, due to his injury history and contract (same as Wall). The biggest draw-back to Wall is his contract. As far as Kemba, there is zero chance he doesn’t pick up his option, as he will never make that kind of money again.
Is the idea that Kemba is a better defender, strictly relying on his willingness to take charges? Other than that, Kemba is a black hole, where teams constantly try to take advantage of him and puts pressure on the rest of the Celtics defenders. When it came time for the playoffs, teams were focusing on attacking Kemba.
How would the offense be different with Wall is my question. Will he create offense, and prevent the constant one on one trips from Tatum and Brown?
He should be able to create offense. Although the question I have on my mind is, will his inability to shoot actually hurt the team more?
Now, if Wall has developed a shot over the course of his long hiatus, that’s a different matter. I mean, D-rose has developed a shot despite coming in as a slashing PG
Wall took 6.2 3-pointers a game at 31.7%
Smart took 5.9 3-pointers at 33%
If fans on this board don't like Smart's shot selection and ability to make threes, they will absolutely hate Wall.
Lol true. And it’d be a disaster having them on the same team.
The more I think about it, the less averse I am though to trading for Wall. Contract is bloated and ends the same year as Kemba so I view that as a wash, but now we get a PG who knows how to set other players up (and make role players look good) and who fits into a switch-everything type of defense.
That said, it still means we should probably move Smart, which is unfortunate but might be necessary. His bigger payday is coming up and the team might be better off moving him now rather than later.
