All I'm gonna say is Kyrie should thank whatever deity he believes in everyday for being such a naturally gifted athlete.

Finally Kyrie makes a smart chess move. Now, any booing can be hinted as racism and Kyrie gets the default sympathy while Boston gets smeared. This used to appropriately get called out for race-baiting, but times have changed. The currency he is using is trading at an all-time high.

I used to think Kyrie was just an introvert who suffered from depression. Now I'm believing that he's a narcissist who uses personality and mental health issues to cover himself when he breaches normal etiquette or fails to live up to expected responsibilities.

Danny should have never brought him in.  What a stark difference between him and IT4 in terms of fan interaction.

If he's worried about facing racism, it's probably good he went somewhere where there is no racism like New York. [/sarcasm]

I've heard some fans say some racist stuff inside the Garden (in the cheap seats, not anywhere near courtside). I've heard people say racist stuff outside the Garden. There are some pretty trash people out there, and some of them happen to be Celtics supporters.

Not that you imply otherwise, but every fan base has its trash.  I’ve seen racism in Boston (Southie in particular).  I’ve seen way more of it in other place where I’ve spent time, like Charleston, Atlanta, Houston and Orlando.  Hell, even an extremely progressive place like Portland, OR was surprisingly anti-Asian and anti-gay when I lived there (early 90s).

There are a lot of meatheads or just downright bad people, no matter where you go.  (As an aside, the most racist place I’ve ever been, by far, was South Africa.  )

100% correct.  I think it's important for folks thinking about this stuff to be aware that it cuts both ways no matter where you go, and isn't as simple as saying "well, Boston fans aren't racist" or "well, Boston fans are racist".

So Kyrie, what exactly is the difference between racism and subtle racism ?

The former must be a reference to clear-cut attitudes and language that demean a person based solely on their race. The latter (subtle) is anything Kyrie sees or hears that he decides to label as racist behavior, most of which are illegitimate claims and lies.

Danny's two biggest mistakes - trading Perk and not trading Irving at the deadline.

I realise you don't actually want an answer to this question, but in case someone reading is curious and wants a very simplified version of the difference:

1. Having hiring practices that explicitly forbid hiring someone of a given race is overt racism.
2. Having hiring practices that will effectively prevent the hiring of someone of a given race is subtle (or covert) racism.

I would be wary, perhaps, of ridiculing something just because a player you don't like talked about it.

I think Boston kinda has that image all over the world?

Google the phrase “Most racist city,” and Boston pops up more than any other place, time and time again.

Or to put it differently; I've gotten eyerolls for saying I was a Boston fan before.

True or not, that's the image the city has.

Does not bode well for the future of this team one bit.

Yeah, hadn't considered this part until just now but, fair call.
and if this reaction about race is coming from Austrialians, well, then you know boston has a bad rep.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Boston also has set a lot of first in terms of breaking the racial barriers.

First Black Head Coach.
First all Black starting Five
First Afro-American drafted into the NBA

yet most do not know this stuff.

Why Irving eventually decided to depart Boston has never been fully clear but Irving has spoken on the topic of racism in Boston while he was a member of the organization. The All-Star guard was asked about it during the final months of his tenure in Boston in March 2019 after a report surfaced that DeMarcus Cousins had heard racist slurs from a fan at TD Garden earlier that season. A subsequent investigation led to a two-year suspension for the fan which became public in March 29th in a team announcement

Irving spoke at length when asked about that situation and racism in Boston but noted in his remarks on that day that he had never dealt with racist comments himself while playing in Boston. Irving played his final game as a Celtic two months later.

“I myself can only speak for playing here as an opponent, I’ve never heard anything like that,” Irving said in March 29, 2019. “But I can only go off of hearing stories. When you hear something like that, especially people of color, I gravitate toward being on anyone’s side, as long as it’s the right side. And really it just matters is treating people with respect. That’s really what it comes down to.”

Was he lying then or now?

I think you're presenting a bit of a false binary.

I've heard some fans say some racist stuff inside the Garden (in the cheap seats, not anywhere near courtside). I've heard people say racist stuff outside the Garden. There are some pretty trash people out there, and some of them happen to be Celtics supporters.

It's also true that people can (and do) say things that are unintentionally racist all the time as well, to all sorts of people. Not just athletes.

However.

I have no idea if Kyrie is a good person or not, and I won't presume to pass judgment there, but he absolutely deserves a shower of boos based not on the colour of his skin, but on the content of his professional character.

He left us high and dry, why wouldn't we boo him? Just boo him for what happened on the court, not because of his complexion.

My comment had nothing to do with his complexion. I don't care that he left.

I believe he's been an attention Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. since he came into the league. This strikes me as another example and worthy of booing.

I've lived half my life in Texas and half in New England ( born and raised) and Texas is by far the more racist place. Texas has three NBA teams that Kyrie doesn't mention. This is all more Kyrie hookum. How many times does this guy who begged out of his situation in Cleveland to come to Boston and then announced to the whole city of Boston that he'd be resigning, "If you'll have me", need to poop on a city that gave him every opportunity to his "Own" team. Then he colludes his way to Brooklyn with his buddies so he can be the 4th best guy on their team. He quit on us in that Bucks series because he already knew he was leaving before the games. What a disgraceful little man

Yeah I wasn't really addressing your post there.

Irving's words quickly drew a rebuke from fellow Celtics alumnus and current NBA commentator Kendrick Perkins while discussing the loss and postgame commentary on NBC Boston Sports. "I lived there for eight and a half years, and me personally, I never deal with any type of racism while I was living in Boston. That's just me personally -- I never dealt with it." https://twitter.com/NBCSCeltics/status/1397391559792996352

"I also came back as an opponent of the Celtics," he explained. "I played with the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Cleveland Cavaliers and still never experienced any racism." "It's always extra," noted Perkins with regard to Irving's comments Tuesday night, but also alluding to his polarizing persona when interacting with the media. "It's always extra with him." https://twitter.com/usatodaysports/status/1397556881518907392?s=20

"I don't even know I was surprised by this comment," said the former Celtic center. "Just think about it."

"In New York yesterday, I mean the other night, the fans were chanting "eff" Trae Young. That doesn't mean that they're racist -- they're just ruthless, and they're just cheering on a team. Do we expect anything less than Kyrie to be extra about it?"
