2021 Draft

Franz Wagner is skipping the combine.  Wonder if he got a promise from someone.  His draft range seemed a little wide to be someone who skips it.

Seems pretty unlikely.

“Hi, we just cut your brother after three weeks on the team.  Even though you’re a projected lottery pick, would you like to skip the combine and maybe shut down your workouts? If you do, we’ll pick you at 16.”

I’m trying to get used to my draft binkie not coming to Boston.  I was hopeful he’d enter the draft last year so we could have taken him with a late 1st, but then we’d have traded the pick and he’d have become my Desmond Bane.

Maybe Brad will do the opposite of Danny.  With the savings created by moving Kemba, perhaps we can convert a future second to a 1st by taking a contract another team doesn’t want.

While the trading of the #16 has thrown cold water on this draft I still am very optimistic for the talent available at #45.

Every year the 2nd round turns out really good prospects

2018 Jevon Carter, Devonte' Graham, Mitch Robinson, Gary Trent Jr, Bruce Brown, De'Anthony Melton, Shake Milton

2019  Eric Paschall, Talen Horton-Tucker, Terrance Mann, Cody Martin, Isaiah Roby, Jalen McDaniels

2020 has already produced productive rookies in Theo Maledon, Xavier Tillman, and Saben Lee

Looking at Tankathon's mock at #45 the Celtics could still draft a few players who I really like as long term role players;  Nah'shon Hyland, Matthew Hurt, Herb Jones, Quentin Grimes, Isaiah Todd or Jay Huff

Derrick Jones Jr. is owed Tristan Thompson money, and was benched by the Blazers, who are slated to be in the tax.  He’d fit into the rest of the Hayward exception.  (Although Portland is lacking a 1st this year). Montrezl Harrell is owed the same, and seemed to fall out of the Lakers plans as the year went on.  I’d imagine Indiana would be happy to have Jeremy Lamb off the books, as would Chicago with Al-Farouq Aminu.

I think he might lack the footspeed to play the modern 4, but I’ve heard reports he’s lost a lot of weight - could be quicker now. Have yet to see any footage of slim Garza
