I'm trying to think if players get as big of a pass in any other major sport. You could make the case that the NFL is even tougher on coaches due to the extremely tactical nature of the game and the never-ending carousel of new coaches.
But the reason I speculate: Brad was dealt a hand and he's making the best of it. The tendency of fans to nitpick the timing of timeouts, or get mad at Brad for tinkering with rotations during an 82 game season, or to blame Brad when players don't bring it energy wise, is baffling.
Brad is elite when it comes to in-series adjustments during the playoffs. He's elite when it comes to allowing All-Star talent to blossom and grow into their roles. He's above average with in-game adjustments (this is his weak point). And he's elite when it comes to playing the long game of an 82 game season.
As Birdman noted, the issue for the past few years has been Danny. And the ability of our players. Not Brad. We've made the ECF 3 out of 4 years with rosters that had about 7-8 legitimate NBA players on them. It seems like misplaced anger focusing solely on Brad.
