Brad, when talking about the job, has equivocated slightly. If it were someone else, they'd just say "I'm not taking the job."

And he does sound--at the very least--like a guy who isn't happy at his current job and considering other options.

As an IU fan, I’m torn. But maybe Brad really is this teams Mark Jackson.

Brad would be great for IU. I’d hate to see him go but as a Hoosier, this place would go nuts.

Who would I want to coach the C’s? No idea. Maybe bring in Mchale w/ KG and billups as coaches. Would definitely like to see a former player take the lead.

Not so sure Danny would go after someone without HC experience.

I would still be very surprised and disappointed, but if Indiana wants Stevens, they probably couldn't have picked a better week to have the opening.  Rough stretch of the season, right before the trade deadline, a year into pandemic exhaustion...

For what it’s worth, regarding Brad Stevens to IU speculation:

The Celtics just finished shootaround. Play the Kings tonight at 7:30.

One source: “It was just a normal day. He didn’t seem any different”

Celtics sources will be beyond shocked if Stevens leaves for Indiana.

Seems like people with college basketball sources are thinking there's something to this story about Brad leaving.

People with NBA sources are saying there's no indication of it.

Either it's bogus or Brad has completely kept this a secret from the team and everybody around the team.

As a University of Michigan follower, this is starting to remind me of Jim Harbaugh's return to college.  The NFL media was screaming that there was no way this would happen, whereas the U of M media felt that Harbaugh's return was fait accompli.  This has continued throughout his tenure, with the NFL media saying he's out the door, whereas Michigan insiders say there's nothing to it (even if some would like it to be true).

It's generally difficult for pro sports to fathom why anyone would prefer college -- there are more resources, you get to work with adults, there's no recruiting, etc.  And yet some people who've experienced both may prefer college, especially coaching at the state flagship school they've felt attached to their entire life.

All that said, the one place this parallel breaks down is that in the Harbaugh situation, we were all certain it wouldn't occur until after the NFL season, whereas Indiana thinks it's happening in the middle of the NBA season, and making such a switch midseason would seem very, very unlike the person Brad Stevens is.  So unless the situation in Boston is so toxic that Stevens needs to get out today, I'm going to side with the NBA media this time.

BREAKING: A KXCN exclusive, the University of Indiana has reached an agreement with current Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens to become their next men’s basketball coach. It’s reportedly the largest coaching contract in NCAA Men’s history.

I have no clue whether he's going or not, but there are some indications that he is.

KXCN is a fake sports news personality.  It sounds like a real TV station, but the call sign isn't real.

The "University of Indiana" should've been a tip off also.

Hah, it should have been, but I'm a telecom hobbyist, so of course I instantly looked up the callsign.

Lol I can't wait to see the trade deadline period finishing to stop seeing all this rumors and agitation. Even if we stay path I will be unhappy (about Ainge), but hapty to finish with this crap fake news period. The sources are not sources, but people are clicking; like for Grant or Beal rumors. I wonder also how mch this agitation since few weeks is touching teamwork.
