Danny had to add 2 2nd round picks though but we receive a conditional 2nd back. The exception is way more valuable than any 2nd rounder though

Now if it's enough flip that for Beal or Giannis sign IT4 in a I'm sorry vet contract and it would be a great off season. 😆

I only said Giannis cause I saw some where last week Tatum was one of the players on a short list he called about the organization. I didn't think anything of it then, but maybe....... 😆

Marc Stein @TheSteinLine

The Celtics just announced that they have managed to sign-and-trade Gordon Hayward to Charlotte ... which will create one of the largest (if not THE largest) trade exceptions in league history

Interesting, largest?

Any advantage of paying Thompson with TPE and using MLE to sign another player like GR?
Who the heck is GR? I don't know anyone famous enough to be referred to as GR and everyone would know who he is.

Great news!!! Very good offseason for Ainge overall.

We have a full season plus some of the next offseason to use this so it gives us a lot of flexibility.

Realistically, what would we have to give the Wizards to get Beal with the TPE? Our future picks have all been used up and our prospects at the moment aren't overwhelming anybody.

I figure if we give Nesmith and Langford enough court time and one of them manages to impress that may change, but at the moment I can't see a team trading us a player like Beal for the prospects we have without giving up Smart or Brown which I would not want to do.

Anybody know how many trade exceptions have been used in the past? Or who has been acquired through a TPE?

I'm out of the CBA loop, but I don't think you can use that to sign free-agents.

Use partial TPE to snag Trevor Ariza from OKC? Offer another 2nd round round pick?

this happened last year

" the Grizzlies created a $25MM trade exception in their Mike Conley deal with Utah. Memphis later used the Conley TPE to take on Andre Iguodala‘s $17MM salary, then used the remainder to acquire Josh Jackson ($7MM). That exception has less than $800K left on it now, so the Grizzlies probably won’t use it again, but it’s proven extremely valuable this summer"

You’d work out sign and trade with Cleveland. But I guess we’d rather preserve as much of TPE for future big contract to absorb.
