Just got a chance to listed to both the pre and post draft interviews from Aaron.

Very well spoken and intelligent kid. That goes a LOOOONGGG way in my book. I liked the pick as there was only 2 guys I would have picked at 14 (Hampton and Him, after Kings gutted me with taking Haliburton) but he went up a bit more in my book after hearing the interviews.
'21 Historical Draft
PG: Kyle Lowry / Mookie Blaylock / Mark Jackson
SG: Reggie Miller / Jeff Hornacek / Nick Anderson
SF: George Gervin / George McGinnis / Kyle Korver
PF: Connie Hawkins / Serge Ibaka / Josh Smith
C: Clint Capela / Bill Laimbeer / Jusuf Nurkic

People who know Nesmith well as a prospect: how is his off-ball movement? That's been something I've been looking for for a few years (basically since AB left), so getting some of that would be awesome.

Off ball movement would help a ton when the offense bogs down and/or we don't have a dynamic playmaker on the floor, so adding that could be just as valuable as the spot up shooting
I'm bitter.

Same. I was hoping Brown would step into that role when Avery left but he just doesn't have the nose for it like Avery did.

I've watched some clips of his off-ball movement and this is what I currently think: he has most of the reads down, but he doesn't have that Reggie Miller-esque speed and decisiveness to be flying off screens and leading offences with his off-ball game. He's also a bit too obsessed with trying to find threes - I've seen some possessions where he could've just cut to the basket for an open layup and he ended up curling back out to the perimeter to jack up a three. Really good off-ball movement for a prospect though, he can definitely run the AB sets we did a few years ago.

To be fair not many do, AB could break ankles with his air "stepbacks" and "crossovers" when he was a Celtic

His movement off the ball and Horford's vision made them a really nice pair that year.

He might not be much better than Tony Snell or Lance Thomas, but if he can nail open threes reliably, he's a major upgrade on Semi Ojeleye.

If Nesmith is our version of Middleton we're going to the Finals.

FWIW, Middleton in his rookie season at 21 years old:

6 pts 2 reb 1 ast on 44 / 31 / 84 shooting, 17 mpg

I think Nesmith is going to get minutes right away, and will produce.  He really works hard on his footwork. There is a great interview he had with Mike Schmitz from ESPN, where he explains how much time he puts into becoming such a great shooter.  Well worth watching.

I am very happy with this pick!  I think his athleticism is better than he is credited for, and that he has the tools to defend well. Will fit right in here!

Eh?

Semi did hit open threes. More often than not

He just couldnt do anything else but catch and shoot.

Nesmith can shoot off screens, drop offs, catch and shoot, some pnr and also potential to drive and finish.

Semi hit 32% and 31.5% from three before this season.

He's averaged less than 2 attempts per game from deep for his three season career.

We need a guy who (a) will actually take shots and (b) who will reliably hit them.

You're right that it'd be nice for that guy to also be able to do other things.  But just having a guy with genuine gravity as a shooter will make a difference even if it's only 15-20 mpg.

I'm optimistic that he can be a useful part of the rotation.

If Langford can get healthy and be productive, as well, they're not far off from having a decent bench.

Just heard Avery Johnson say Nesmith needs to be picked up and guarded when he gets out of his car in the parking lot, his range is so good. lol
