Yuck, I would have at least like to have gotten a trade exception.  This hurts.

Still can.

Please tell me more.  How so?

We still have his Bird rights.  If, say, we signed-and-traded him into Atlanta’s cap space, we would get a TPE equal to his first year salary.

How is that meaningful? It just gives us ability to take a bad contract, which be definition means the player we are taking is overpaid.  We don't have draft capital to give for a good player.  I think this board makes too much of TPE.  Give me an example of a player we could get with the TPE, realistically (assume it is $25 mm)?
TPEs allow you to get solid players that aren’t bad contracts. You just have to send out picks or other young players.

Golden state right now is adding Kelly Oubre in a deal that would have worked identically with our TPE.

I don't get the Semi hate.

He hits threes at 38%. He hits corner threes at an elite 45%. He is a top notch defender at the 3/4 positions. He is a good 10th man in the rotation guy for under $2 million a year.

If you are expecting him to dribble/drive the lane, be an exceptional passer, or draw fouls to get to the line, yeah, you will be disappointed but that's not his game. He plays a role and he does it very well for his pay grade.

My guess is Semi will be a better all around player next year than either first rounder Ainge just took. And if Ainge doesn't think so, picking him up as salary filler for a trade is a good thing.

Just don't understand the moaning and groaning of making the absolute right move in picking up Semi's option.

I don’t get it either. He plays hard and stays in great shape. He’s an end of the bench guy on a really small contract that’s always ready to play.

He seems like a nice guy and is in great shape, but after several years on the team he still looks like a guy who never played basketball when he gets out there on the floor.

Man... Gotta say this one hurts... Just didn't see him doing the Celtics dirty like this after the way they bent over backwards to accommodate him from day 1.
You're taking trolling to new heights.

I wonder if you'll ever even post here once Hayward is gone

i m for keeping Gordy .....but not at Al Horfords type philly contract,   maybe a 2 plus two deal ,  so if he breaks another leg we aren't left holding the bag for another 1-2 years of recovery.

Given his awful injury record seems he would be willing to work a deal ...if he stays healthy a couple years , then he gets paid high dollar for couple more.

Thanks.  I knew that, just overreacted in the moment.  Hopefully, we can get something for him or keep him.

He doesnt have to agree to a sign and trade to atl or nyk.

Why wouldn’t he?

It’s more whether NY or ATL accommodates it.
Because the Knicks are a horrific franchise, and NY fans are worse than Boston fans.  ATL is an option, although they are a fringe playoff team at best.   I think agent is using ATL as leverage to get a sign and trade to INDY.

Hayward's relationship with the Cs org is good. He presumably wants to go to a team where his role is larger and more straightforward, and were he can secure long-term money the Cs can't and shouldn't pay him. He's also presumably discussed this with Ainge and Stevens, and they've agreed to try to work together to find a mutually agreeable and beneficial outcome.

In other words, there's a puncher's chance they have the framework for a sign-and-trade in place, and the details are being ironed out. We'll soon find out, but in the meantime, all the venom is a little much.

TP. Most intelligent post I've read on this entire thread.

Signing with the Knicks or hawks over staying in Boston? Can’t see it. Has to be something else

If either of those two give him a 4 year deal at the max that they can offer thats incentive enough, he won out. Same situation as Horford, you go for the money if someone throws it at you.

That contract would be toxic in a year

I just don't see how he fits (what should be) the timeline for ATL or NYK, if they are building properly that is.

Atlanta was going after Rondo and Galinari so I guess they dont care about timelines, and the Knicks are the Knicks...
A team of:
Trae Young / Rajon Rondo
Kevin Huerter / Cam Reddish
Gordon Hayward / De'Andre Hunter
John Collins / Danilo Gallinari
Clint Capela / Onyeka Okongw

Is actually a cool team. I'd like to watch them

Bite your tongue.

If we get nothing for Hayward I think I shop Kemba.

Go all out young talent
The Celtics got to the ECFs in the playoffs without Gordon. No need to purge all the vets. Actually what Boston needs is more vets and less youth.

Trading Kemba for more youth would seriously hurt this team's chances of being a contender right now

Assuming he is going to get fully healthy. Huge assumption, no?

Just don't understand the moaning and groaning of making the absolute right move in picking up Semi's option.

We lost in the ECF last season. We have to blame someone.  It wasn't fault of Tatum or Smart for playing hero ball at end of games.

It was all Semi's fault.

Don't you get it??

We are Celtics fans, therefore we blame everyone from the top down for playoff loses. We even blame the TV crew and the people working the concession stands.
