As others have said, he can go to Atlanta or NYK and yes, we get nothing.

He's going to talk to other teams he wants to play for more, because nothing is stopping him. If any of them want him, it's the same situation as before 5:00. They need us to cooperate.

The longer this takes, the more likely it is we might get something we want.  Its a form of fan torture, really.

Exactly. He and the Celtics could be easily using NY and Atlanta for leverage to get a good sign and trade with the Pacers.

I hope so, for everyone's sake. I really don't think Hayward will enjoy his time in either place. I don't think it's the right move for either of the those franchises. And it is probably the worst scenario for the Celtics.

Will miss him if he goes.

"IF" he's gone then that's Kyrie, Al and NOW GH......

It's not the end of the world but this team IS at a crossroads right now.

I guess it's All In for The Jays, Kemba and Smart. Not a bad group AT ALL right there but our window for ERROR just shrunk without GH.

I don’t agree we are at a crossroads.  Disappointing, sure, but we still have Tatum (22) and Brown(24).  They’re both still getting better.  Our future is bright.

If we get nothing for Hayward I think I shop Kemba.

Go all out young talent
The Celtics got to the ECFs in the playoffs without Gordon. No need to purge all the vets. Actually what Boston needs is more vets and less youth.

Trading Kemba for more youth would seriously hurt this team's chances of being a contender right now

Per Murphy:

Hayward's opt-out viewed more as a formality. League source said it's still possible he returns to C's in restructured deal, unless, ala Al Horford, he receives home run offer from Atlanta or New York. "Gordon doesn't even know right now."

Sounds about right.

Also, after all the tampering issues last year before free agency, even if there is an actual agreement between him and one of those teams, there is no way they will say anything before Saturday.

Wyc could have paid GH what he wanted;  Wyc has said he would be willing to pay the luxury tax for a championship contender:

My feeling is that the FO does not believe an investment in an older GH brings them closer to a championship.

Signing with the Knicks or hawks over staying in Boston? Can’t see it. Has to be something else

If either of those two give him a 4 year deal at the max that they can offer thats incentive enough, he won out. Same situation as Horford, you go for the money if someone throws it at you.

That contract would be toxic in a year

I just don't see how he fits (what should be) the timeline for ATL or NYK, if they are building properly that is.

Atlanta was going after Rondo and Galinari so I guess they dont care about timelines, and the Knicks are the Knicks...
A team of:
Trae Young / Rajon Rondo
Kevin Huerter / Cam Reddish
Gordon Hayward / De'Andre Hunter
John Collins / Danilo Gallinari
Clint Capela / Onyeka Okongw

Is actually a cool team. I'd like to watch them

Yeah I like the potential for a year or two. But they aren't building anything going that route.

He made about $750k per game in Boston.
You think that's bad, try figuring out how much GSW are paying Klay Thompson per game for last year and this year.

$68 million/ 0 games.

You can't even figure it out without advanced math.

Are they Cs being realistic about Tatum and Brown... the way people view them here you would think they were the second coming of Jordan and Pippen. Are they? Or are they really  more like Many other pairs of good players that did not win any championships? The landscape of the NBA has become very competitive. LeBron and AD, Kawhi and PG, Luka and Porzingis, Jokic and Murray, Durant and Kyrie, Curry and Green, Bam and Butler, Giannis and Middleton and on and on and on. Why do folks think we have the best path going forward?

And yet I don't feel bad at all for GSW, but I feel terrible for Klay.

Don't get me wrong, they wouldn't be good. But they'd be better than the Eastern 7th and 8th seeds of the last few years, and it would be all about offence!
