At least all those fans concerned about Wyc paying the luxury tax there is one less thing to worry about.
Celtics the absolute financial champs this decade!

They keep saying they will pay the tax for a championship squad so what message does that send?
The message is that Danny never went all in and may not even do it if he wants flexibility any given season

So what was 2017-18, then?
I'm bitter.

Hayward is trash if he doesnt agree to a sign and trade.

Treating a team that paid him almost 100 million dollars to watch basketball like this is pure punk move.

He is probably doing the Cs a solid ...can the Cs still do a sign and trade with him?

Rofl. Players don’t owe teams anything. Are we trash for the way we treated IT? Or is it fine and dandy for players to be treated like livestock by fans & organisations, but they’re “trash” if they look out for themselves?

The pure animosity some C's fans have for Hayward astounds me. He's been nothing but a good soldier for us. Like, how did he hurt you? Do I need to remind you that it isn't his fault his leg snapped in half?

Nice to see there isn't any "sky is falling" crowd around here...

Him opting out doesn't really take any options off the table other than him playing out this season on an expiring deal.  That's it.

Super weird and annoying how everybody is acting like this is the end of the world.

Reminder:

Hayward was available and playing at a high level for approximately 3-4 months out of the last 3 seasons.  Him leaving for nothing would be bad but the team is still very good and has options to improve.

What? There is no expiring deal, he is a free agent.

The best case scenario is technically still there which is a sign and trade.

The other team has no incentive to do Danny a favor. Remember Danny squeezing a second round pick out of Charlotte for S&T rozier

Yuck, I would have at least like to have gotten a trade exception.  This hurts.

Still can.

Please tell me more.  How so?

We still have his Bird rights.  If, say, we signed-and-traded him into Atlanta’s cap space, we would get a TPE equal to his first year salary.

Thanks.  I knew that, just overreacted in the moment.  Hopefully, we can get something for him or keep him.

I believe the cs have his bird rights still. So I think he can get more years with it.

But he can just walk away, no sign amd trade.

Exactly. It's a business with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake. Loyalty is figment of the fans imagination.

That said, we still have his bird rights and depending on how badly he wants Indy, we can still do sign & trade. Perhaps the issue was the $34.2m was too much to match in salary for Indy but getting him at a multiyear deal at a lower figure (in the range of $25m maybe) makes a deal easier... Or maybe not. Who knows.

Sure, but then he would have to play for the Hawks or Knicks
