While the Bucks and other teams make strong moves to contend, the Celtics lay low.
I'm fine with it. Just keep building patiently via the draft.
We do have to manage the financial situation. Either Hayward walks/re-signs and otherwise Hayward or Walker needs to be traded before the trade deadline.
The main goal for this season is to further develop Tatum, Brown, R.Williams, Langford, G.Williams and rookies.
Trade away Walker/Edwards/Ojeleye/Theis/Kanter if a decent offer comes in.
How about prioritizing winning after 7 years of rebuilding and having 3+ all stars on the team ?
Tatum and Brown will be here in two years and probably even better than they're now. Don't care too much about Walker. He's a very good player, but also a defensive liability. He's barely a top 10 PG in the playoffs and that knee is really concerning. I don't think anyone believed that Walker would show the road to contention, he was just a stopgap to make sure we comfortably stayed a playoff team.
We have a terrible bench. Two ways about it. Trade away picks/rookie contracts for veteran help or develop the young guys. I choose the latter. The Celtics peak can start in 2-3 years. You're not getting great value for our unproductive bench pieces Robert Williams (5 PTS/4 REB/1 BLK a game), Grant Williams (3 PTS/3 REB/1 ASS a game) or Langford (3 PTS/1 REB a game) anyway on the trade market.
We had 3 first rounders (although Edwards was technically an early 2nd) last year and 3 first rounders this year, it should be possible to end up with at least 2 solid role players in the end.
