It does feel like it's been a while since the last "insider" though. I find stuff like that entertaining even when it's not real.

I agree with that part.  Isn't that the whole point of a forum?

Anyway, as to the proposed deal, it does make a lot of sense to me.  Atlanta dumps some multi-year salary on us (in particular Dedmon 2@$13.3M), they get a player I guess they like in Hayward, we get a useful enough big and a shooter to help our bench, and we end up with a much better pick in a draft that maybe Atlanta is not all that excited about.

The key to it is what does Atlanta do with the cap space.  If they are able to bolster the team more either by signing directly or by taking back salary in a trade, they could be looking pretty good next season.  Somehow it seems more equal if the pick going back to Atlanta was the #14 but hey, who knows.

"I can't go into what I know about Hayward or the Hawks due to the confirmation and the CBA. I will say this, the Hawks definitely aren't all in for 2021 and are not afraid to cash in for 2020. "

From the guy with source.

Looks like Atlanta might be quite interested in Hayward. Add to that Boston is very interested in Okongwu and there could be a bit of a smolder here.

.... Who? Are we still talking about Rusillo? Or is there another guy?

Can we at least try to link to articles or provide some sort of concrete info as to where we're quoting things from??

From a Hawks fan that apparently (and has been proven right in the past) that has a high up friend in the "know".  Cannot link to him in the open forums cause they will lock down their site to prevent the sharing of the info. But I can PM you the deal. Just, like I say, cannot link to it, and cannot quote all of it or they will lock down their board. (did so in the past.)

Apparently he has MAJOR news, but it is being blocked by the CBA at this point. *shrugs

Lol.

Why is the CBA preventing “major news”?  So silly.  Don’t believe this nonsense.  People vouched for Celtic Thug before he was proven to be a fraud, too.

I’ve been affiliated with CelticsBlog and the like for two decades.  In that time, I’ve only seen a tiny percentage of “insiders” with any credibility at all.  One was a cousin of Al Jefferson, one gave our staff a tip a day before that the KG trade was going down, and the other two have only discussed things privately with me.  Oh, and I was on a private message board with Bill Simmons, who I’m no longer a fan of.

5 folks in 20 years.  To read RealGM, you’d think that “insiders” were breaking stories on the regular.

Well from what I have read, I don't think the CBA is blocking the news per say, but more that the news he has is dependent on the CBA itself, and he doesn't want to release it out on the forum if it turns out to not be legal once the new CBA agreed.

Dude has been right a number of times.

This is fairly plausible, given how many times the CBA negotations have been extended, however I think trending towards scepticism is also a good idea here.

It does feel like it's been a while since the last "insider" though. I find stuff like that entertaining even when it's not real.

Almost none of them are credible, but they definitely can add to the mythology or color of a site.  More people around here are probably familiar with CROTOR or Deli Guy than they are with the long-time members who helped build this site, like HomeRunBaker and Hagrid (and Edgar and Master Po, a couple of the greatest guys to ever follow the Celts).

 :'( getting me all sentimental!

I think Hagrid was kind of tailing off when I was first getting going on CB.  I do miss Edgar and Po (though I get to communicate with Edgar on FB)

If I was the Hawks. I would do it. Hayward and (ask for 14, then ask for 26 and 30 but would settle for just 26 and edwards)

I would then look to sign FVV at a salary that Toronto wont match. Defensive, playmaking guard who should pair very well with Trae in the backcourt.

Looking into next season with

Trae/Edwards
FVV/Redish
Hayward/Hunter
Collins
Capela/fernando

Would still have some capspace left to plug some holes, as well as the pick(s) from Boston.

I believe that Collins and Trae are both going to want to win sooner than later, so dealing for Hayward while shedding some salary, allows them to add a couple of established guys,.
'21 Historical Draft
PG: Kyle Lowry / Mookie Blaylock / Mark Jackson
SG: Reggie Miller / Jeff Hornacek / Nick Anderson
SF: George Gervin / George McGinnis / Kyle Korver
PF: Connie Hawkins / Serge Ibaka / Josh Smith
C: Clint Capela / Bill Laimbeer / Jusuf Nurkic

I recognize those posters names but I somehow missed CROTOR and Deli Guy and only got the second hand reminiscing of their legends. I do remember Celtic Thug, but I think he also posted on another forum and it was over there that I witnessed that epic firsthand.

Idle speculation is more or less all we've got as sports fans, especially in the offseason. I welcome all the nonsense even if it's entirely made up, but the delivery can get a bit grating sometimes  ;D

I don't see why Hayward would fetch the 6th pick from the Hawks without some serious other assets going to Atlanta.  I totally buy why Atlanta might not want to wait a whole year, I just don't see how Hayward makes sense for them.  The Hawks are loaded in the backcourt with guys on rookie deals i.e. Young, Hunter, Reddish, Huerter, Bembry, and have very little in the way of big men outside of Collins and Capela (and maybe Parker if he has anything left).  I could see the Hawks going all in for a short term big guy.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

The “rumor” didn’t say he wanted out of Boston, it said his preference would be to opt out of his deal to get paid.

This is based upon something Russillo “heard”.

Actually, he said Hayward wants out but not bad enough to leave money on the table. He specifically talked about Hayward not enjoying being the 4th or 5th the option on the floor.

I think ATL would just sign Hayward if there was mutual interest - not trade - but I think you are forgetting that they also traded for Dedmon, in addition to Capela, this past deadline. Also Hayward is definitely not a guard (I assume you know this); he would fit in great as a much-needed veteran do-it-all wing and would immediately make that team better.

I can't imagine Hayward is ready to move on to ATL, but I guess you never know.
