I said that at the time. Brady may be the best short passer in the history of the NFL, and it’s unrealistic to expect your defense to hold him to less than 10 yards.

Not only the best short passer of all time, but he's also the best playoff player ever and perhaps the most reliably clutch player of all time. Giving Brady the ability to seal the game, rather than trying to steal it from him, is insanely bad coaching

Also strange as the Bucs went to the playoffs 5 times in 6 years and won the Superbowl in that stretch (and were also in the conference championship another time), they just did it with 3 different QB's in those seasons Dilfer, King, and Johnson.  They also were a defensive oriented run heavy offense.  That said, the Bucs also hadn't made the playoffs since 2007 and only had 10 playoff appearance in their entire history until this year so not all that surprising that 3 wins in the current pass heavy league yielded that sort of result.

Watson was always going to get the largest haul in history.  He is arguably the 2nd best QB in the game (at worst top 5) and is 25 years old.  The bidding was always going to start at 3 1st round picks plus additional draft capital.
