Manu Ginobili

Stats Comparison Of Roy vs Manu
Dang! Was hoping he'd fall just a few more picks. Great selection
^^^this. He was the guy I was torn about with my third round pick. I think he was in the same tier as Carter, but I wanted a wing who can shoulder a heavy offensive load.

I actually gave a thought of selecting him and putting him at the PG spot, but the last Historical Draft we made taught me that we should not play players out of position as much as possible.

But man, what a talent. Great pick.

I had Jokic pegged as a mid 2nd round pick. Terrific value this late in the draft. His high post offense is one of the best counters you can give to dominant interior bigs like Shaq. Plus, Jokic is a basketball savant who makes everyone around him better.

I love the fit next to C-Webb because I believe C-Webb needs a high post center to unlock Webber's threat as a low post option for Webber to be a high functioning PF. Otherwise (without a high post center), Webber needed to play center rather than power forward in order for him to be a high value player.
Webber was a low post threat? I always thought of him as a modern stretch big with great playmaking chops and volume scoring ability.

As a high post threat, he was much more valuable at center than at power forward.

You lose some of that value having him at PF where he is playing against more mobile more able defensive bigs away from the hoop. C-Webb's main advantage then is his size at 6-9 260lbs. He had a good but unexceptional post arsenal. Never developed it fully but it was a good threat.

Well that makes my decision easier. I was torn between Manu and another player. Plus Jokic was also in consideration. So everything nice and tidy now.

Boston selects Marc Gasol with pick 4.8.

The Gasol Brothers reunited.

Thanks, guys.  I’d been considering Manu since the second round.

Man, that Gasol pick is going to break hearts.  Fun selection playing the Gasols together.

I had Ginobili rated as a 2nd rounder too. Breaks my heart a little to see him picked so far behind Ray Allen who Ginobili was a similar caliber to.

I wish Ginobili got the credit he deserves for how talented he was and how much he sacrificed in San Antonio compared to the type of big raw numbers (25-5-5) he could've put up if he had been on a lesser team playing as the main option.

The OTHER SFs I saw were either more "Specific Role" players at this point in their careers.

Some had ******* Team awards, but seemed to only fit a specific role - thus limiting my team somewhat.

Gordon Hayward is a fine facilitator, deep threat, scorer, decent rebounder and leader for this team. And his defense is decent, especially in 2016-17.

Dude was just too solid all-around for me to let go of at this point.

His 16-17 stats - especially in the playoffs - helps this team.

In the past I reached for certain "Role" players as my starters and it bit me in the end.

Looking THIS game to better diversify my players.

Exactly. Another thing about Manu is that his box stats were never really empty, he was killing it in every impact metric during the mid-late 2000s to the early 2010s.

To be fair those "role" players were selected in an All-Time draft, the draft pool in this draft is much less deep. I think a certain lad you selected to be one of your guards the last draft would be an excellent mid round pick in this format ;)
