  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Aldridge is an interesting player for what year to pick for him. He has been so consistent for so long. Towards the end of his career, his post scoring became more versatile / well rounded and he added a 3 point shot. But his legs lost some speed which took away from his team defense and transition play both offensively and defensively.

I guess what I am trying to say is -- I am not sure he has a clear peak. A best year. So many similar seasons over such a long period.

That is not a problem. Just interesting to see which version of Aldridge Yoki goes with.

Right now I'm thinking 15-16. As you said, this is the time where his post scoring has been well rounded, and is starting to develop a longer range, even though he's still not shooting 3s yet. He was still fairly effective offensively despite taking just 14 shots a game.

This is also the year where he logged his best Defensive Rating (if that matters) of his career, so that tells me he's still pretty good as far as defending, whether individually or in a team concept.

Being picked as an All-NBA 3rd team guy helps the case as well.

That's the initial idea for now.

I had originally toyed with the idea of only going with 2000s.   Then AD fell and I pivoted.  But I was intrigued to do it.

GreenFaith went to run an errand but said he would be back to make the pick, but just in case gave me his list. I also have fresh's pick so I am going to give GF all the way to 11:15 to make his pick, and if he doesn't I will then.

Individual DRTG is one of the worst stats to use when evaluating defence, it's affected a lot by team performance. DRAPM is a much better measurement even though you have to take context into account.

Shame because there is a guy that I think would be great on his team whose value is around now that is obviously international and would keep the trend going.

Yeah, AD was too talented to let slide. I love how varied all the teams are. Lots of different identities

That's fair.

But in a team that has Paul Pierce, Paul George and Ben Wallace, I think I can safely expect that LMA would fit in well defensively.

On a selfish level I really wanted Miami to go with another problem child, especially as there are a couple available that have much higher than 4th round value, but I think Brandon Roy should be able to fit well on the team. That said, I do think there are better non-problem players out there though, that also would have fit well so I don't like the pick overall.

Ming and Aldridge are solid selections.  I worry about Ming's health especially given he was a far superior player in the seasons he missed games, but he was healthy his first 3 seasons and given the construct of the game, he probably produced enough to still be a top half of the league type center in this thing.
