The olympics is in Japan

What’s the chances nba players pull out of fear of getting the virus in Japan?

would be cool if team usa  rolled instead with the college kids who didn’t get a chance to go to the ncaa tournament.

Very possible. Just my opinion, I have a feeling it might get postponed. I'm not sure how you could possibly do it, particularly if things get worse. Holding it without crowds would be a financial disaster.

I don't think the Tokyo Olympics are happening this year.  Fall at the earliest would be my guess and even that seems like a far off possibililty.

You have a global pandemic and then you decide to host the largest international event in the world?  That's not happening anytime in the near future.
As far as I've interpreted it, the Tokyo Olympics can only be postponed to a date later in the calendar year.

Weird times. Can't imagine Japan / the world would be dumb enough to force the Olympics in such a time

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure the process. I think the last games to get cancelled were during WWII and they just waited until the next cycle.   Which wouldn't surprise me here but it certainly would suck for the athletes.  Many who only would get one shot and would be out of their primes by the time 2024 rolled around.

Why exactly does it have to happen in 2020? Whats to stope everybody from getting together and saying "hey, lets do this in 2022?"

Also you gotta feel for Japan a little, the Summer Olympics is MASSIVELY expensive. The cost of the venues alone has sent some countries into economic turmoil when after the Olympics they barely get used. Now its ossible they may not get the Olympic revenue at all.

  • Be the posts you wish to see in the world.
Giannis joins Kevin Love with a $100k pledge for arena and team workers affected by the shutdown. Great to see. Would love to see some Celtics put something like this together.

Yeah I got to admit, it's now been two days without sports and I feel empty  :(

And it'll be like this for at least one more month (but likely a lot longer)

All of the Celtics tested negative for the coronavirus, per the Twitterverse.

That's a relief.

I was watching some old ACC tournament games on ESPNU this afternoon.  UNC-Wake Forest in the 94 and 95 tourneys.  It was fun to see freshman Duncan going up against Eric Montross and Sheed, with Stack being UNC’s best player.  Both games went to OT.  After the end of the 95 game, in which Wake won, Lesley Visser asked sophomore Tim Duncan if it was his last ACC tourney, which Duncan emphatically denied.  Crazy that he played in two more of them.

Luckily we have decades of great games to watch on replay for the next year in every sport.  These tourney games are fun because I know the players but don’t necessarily remember who won.

Actually, a lot of these workers are considered independent contractors and are not eligible for unemployment.  Vendors have had such an arrangement for years, and more recently other aspects of event services have turned to the gig economy.

i don’t think it works like that in a state of emergency. You think the state and federal government are just going to shrug their shoulders at these people losing their jobs ? Lol
