Zinc is for the immune system, and that also helps against the coronavirus.

Bullcrap, I post an article from a doctor that refuted this quite handily.  Here is another, note both written by doctors and both state COLD only.

Quote
Short-term oral zinc treatment has been shown to shorten the length of rhinovirus colds when taken at the proper dose by adults, according to Medscape author Joseph Adrian L Buensalido, MD.

The treatment seems to work when at least 75mg of elemental zinc is taken within the first 24 hours of cold symptoms developing, Dr. Buensalido said. He said the improvement was not seen in children.

"Zinc has also been associated with faster resolution of nasal congestion, nasal drainage, and sore throat, as well as improvement of cough," Dr. Buensalido said.

But be careful. More than 150mg/day of zinc may lead to zinc toxicity, with side effects including reduced immune function, according to the NIH. That could leave you worse off than when you started.

Zinc has been proposed as an antiviral medication in the past, according to MedicineNet medical author Melissa Conrad Stöppler, MD.

She said evidence suggests zinc can work as a lozenge, tablet, or syrup to reduce the severity of colds and their duration. However, she offers several precautions as well. Zinc can cause side effects, and the FDA warned against some zinc cold products in 2009 because of it.

Well, my fact resistant friend, perhaps you want to have your false hope of Zinc and it may give you false confidence, but please don't spread that ignorance to others.

Perhaps your basing this off this 2010 article which you may note that Covid -19 was not around then

https://journals.plos.org/plospathogens/article?id=10.1371/journal.ppat.1001176

You cut off your quote in that article just before the paragraph that says that "zinc allows the body to produce and activate T-cells (t-lymphocytes), which are some of the white blood cells that respond to infections.".

And nobody was saying to take ridiculous amounts of zinc or to use banned nasal sprays. Just like no-one is saying to take twenty aspirins simultaneously if you have heart trouble. Use some common sense.

More importantly, zinc is inherently strong against viruses. Not only does it prevent many viruses from replicating, but your cells need it to fight back, it literally is essential to creating enzymes which destroy viruses:

This review focuses on the role of zinc as an essential micronutrient that is required to mount an effective antiviral response. Although zinc possesses direct antiviral properties (e.g. influenza), it is also critical in generating both innate and acquired (humoral) antiviral responses. To complicate matters, zinc is an integral component of many viral enzymes, proteases, and polymerases, highlighting the importance of regulating cellular and systemic zinc distribution to inhibit viral replication and dissemination.
This study here shows it actually inhibits herpes and HIV as well. In fact there's a great chance it inhibits all sorts of viruses.

It  has also shown effectiveness against HIV and herpes:

https://academic.oup.com/advances/article/10/4/696/5476413

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC353050/

And influenza:

https://jbiomedsci.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12929-019-0563-4

Hepatitis:

https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/dna.2018.4175

Gastroentertitis:

https://bmcvetres.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1746-6148-10-75

But by all means, don't take zinc if you don't want to. It's your choice. We don't have months upon months to conduct clinical, peer-reviewed studies here on its effects with the coronavirus specifically. But personally I'd say it's worth a shot.

Bullcrap your face. So what if it just mentioned colds? That doesnt mean it doesnt help for others. Common colds has no cure, including zinc. How does Zinc help against the common cold? Simple, by helping the immune system. The body produces antibodies to fight of the cold virus which if you dont know are mostly caused by rhinoviruses and coronaviruses. No, zinc will not prevent you from catching HCov19, nor cure you if you have one, but it will help you fight off the disease by helping your system that fights this.

BTW COVID-19 being spread through aerosol is just a theory so far. It hasnt been reviewed yet. The official stand so far is there is no fomites or aerosol transmission.

TP

Something doesn't have to be a "cure" for it to help.

Well said. In addition to zinc, I also recommend other immune-boosting herbal supplements such as ginseng, ginger (my favorite), and mushroom formula (maitake, reishi, and shiitake). Drink plenty of green and white tea, too. I took a combination of all of these right before, and during a cold, I had last year; turned out to be the "best" cold I've ever had.

NHL and MLS postpone seasons

MLB suspending the rest of spring training.

Most of the major NCAA conferences have cancelled conference tourneys.

USMNT and USWNT both cancel upcoming friendlies

My friends in college sports are saying most schools will follow Pac12 and postpone all athletics including spring sports until further notice. Both have upcoming conference calls with their respected athletic conference to discuss later today.

EDIT: Conference USA and Mountain West have since followed suit and cancelled all sports

Duke and Kansas in particular. It'll be canceled within 24 hours, probably by end of day.

Right NBA ...get your head out of the sand   when the prediction is for millions to contract it ?  better make that 90 days min as a prayer .

it took china over three months to get even a reverse in mounting new cases.   America is just getting started .    It might be June before we can get to that point ? .  And even then... still wonder if people will be encouraged to mass gather . Teams might be out of shape , schedules in gyms at mass confusion , some cities with might still be locked down ....i don't see no playoff this year . AND ....if there is no vaccine by then , say Sept or when fall winter sets in , the covid might gather steam again for round two.    Be really lucky  to start the NEW season this fall or winter .

Man, I know this is small potatoes but ...

Imagine being a Bucks fan if this historic season they were having ends like this, without the opportunity to see what they might have done in the playoffs.

That would have to be one of the biggest question marks in NBA history if that happens.

For who is wondering, it doesn’t sound like the plan is to completely cancel the season. Also saw another report that teams are looking into arena availability into July and beyond, which suggests that they intend on completing the season in some form or fashion.

Chris Mannix on the radio was saying the NBA would prefer some sort of shortened season before starting up the playoffs, if the resume play this year. The reasoning being if they will be returning after 4-6 weeks, or more, that the players would need to play some games just to get back in shape and prevent injuries before getting into playoff games.

At some point I think they will need to set up a final decision date on calling the season. Not sure when that date would be but at some point, to not risk next season, they will need to call this season. I think a date in May will make sense. If things aren't looking good by then, call the season and start planning for the draft and next season.
