Federally funded tests conducted by scientists from several major institutions indicated that the novel form of coronavirus behind a worldwide outbreak can survive in the air for several hours.

A study awaiting peer review from scientists at Princeton University, the University of California-Los Angeles and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) posted online Wednesday indicated that the COVID-19 virus could remain viable in the air "up to 3 hours post aerosolization," while remaining alive on plastic and other surfaces for up to three days.

"Our results indicate that aerosol and fomite transmission of HCoV-19 is plausible, as the virus can remain viable in aerosols for 42 multiple hours and on surfaces up to days," reads the study's abstract.

The test results suggest that humans could be infected by the disease simply carried through the air or on a solid surface, even if direct contact with an infected person does not occur. That finding, if accepted, would come in stark contrast to previous media reports that suggested the virus was not easily transmittable outside of direct human contact.

Confirmed cases of coronavirus infection have crossed 121,000 worldwide, with more than 4,300 deaths. The majority of deaths have occurred in mainland China, where the virus is thought to have originated, and Italy, which is experiencing its own large-scale outbreak.

Assuming the playoffs are cancelled as well, are the Bucks the de facto champs?  I doubt it will ever be stated because that would not be a fair decision, but folks may think that in the future.

Glad it's the Bucks and not the Lakers otherwise they would've tied us in banners.

No way. There are still many questions about the Bucks and legitimate challengers.

Zinc is for the immune system, and that also helps against the coronavirus.

Bullcrap, I post an article from a doctor that refuted this quite handily.  Here is another, note both written by doctors and both state COLD only.

Quote
Short-term oral zinc treatment has been shown to shorten the length of rhinovirus colds when taken at the proper dose by adults, according to Medscape author Joseph Adrian L Buensalido, MD.

The treatment seems to work when at least 75mg of elemental zinc is taken within the first 24 hours of cold symptoms developing, Dr. Buensalido said. He said the improvement was not seen in children.

"Zinc has also been associated with faster resolution of nasal congestion, nasal drainage, and sore throat, as well as improvement of cough," Dr. Buensalido said.

But be careful. More than 150mg/day of zinc may lead to zinc toxicity, with side effects including reduced immune function, according to the NIH. That could leave you worse off than when you started.

Zinc has been proposed as an antiviral medication in the past, according to MedicineNet medical author Melissa Conrad Stöppler, MD.

She said evidence suggests zinc can work as a lozenge, tablet, or syrup to reduce the severity of colds and their duration. However, she offers several precautions as well. Zinc can cause side effects, and the FDA warned against some zinc cold products in 2009 because of it.

Well, my fact resistant friend, perhaps you want to have your false hope of Zinc and it may give you false confidence, but please don't spread that ignorance to others.

Perhaps your basing this off this 2010 article which you may note that Covid -19 was not around then

i work closely on our university's reaction team for COVID-19. there is no cure. there is no vaccine...and there won't be a vaccine for probably 1.5 years or more.

as for hot weather reducing the spread of the virus, no one knows for sure. but our medical school says that COVID-19 is a coronavirus strain, as was MERS. and MERS did just fine in 110 degrees in the Middle East. So we cant be confident this will fade as the weather warms up.

as is being stated time and time again by WHO and other health agencies..

and be sure to wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds OFTEN!!

I’d imagine it wouldn’t be any different than when the season ends bc of a lockout/work stoppage.  No unofficial champs, just a lost season

Bullcrap your face. So what if it just mentioned colds? That doesnt mean it doesnt help for others. Common colds has no cure, including zinc. How does Zinc help against the common cold? Simple, by helping the immune system. The body produces antibodies to fight of the cold virus which if you dont know are mostly caused by rhinoviruses and coronaviruses. No, zinc will not prevent you from catching HCov19, nor cure you if you have one, but it will help you fight off the disease by helping your system that fights this.

BTW COVID-19 being spread through aerosol is just a theory so far. It hasnt been reviewed yet. The official stand so far is there is no fomites or aerosol transmission.

No way. League was way too wide open come playoff time (anywhere between 3-5 legit title contenders)

It'd be like the '94 MLB season.  People would just talk about it being cancelled more than anything else.

People don't look back and say the Expos were the defacto champs of that season.

Three days on some surfaces.

The length of survival particularly in the air is new - also note up to 24 hrs on cardboard, aka wash your hands after handling delivery boxes - but were people really still thinking this mostly spread from direct contact? For weeks I've heard the most common transmission is touching a contaminated surface then your face, and that coughing/sneezing transmission was very possible but less frequent.

This subject can be highly emotional for some and to this point, everyone has acted calmly and been generally informative and supportive. Now is not the time to act divisively or to take pretty obvious pot shots at others. We had one poster do this and, of course, it got a bad reaction. You know who you are.

THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN THE CORONAVIRUS THREADS!

There will be no future warnings regarding this. Just suspensions.

Zinc is not a magic bullet and we have no specific evidence it could help with coronavirus but it's not going to hurt to take it, even if it's useless placebo effects are seriously underrated. Just don't make it central to your plan.
