I think at this point, you just have to make the "best" out of a really bad situation. If the NBA is to resume this season, I would suggest first testing the entire league, and making sure everyone is Ok. Then, testing each player / staff 1-2X per week, and conducting fanless games, with only those that are clean playing.

It's not great, but might just be the best we can do at this point, and would sure as hell be better than having zero sports.

Given sick people can't get tested, it might be quite a while before companies can just order all their employees not only to get tested, but get re-tested on a regular basis.

So I'm guessing Al Horford's contract is getting worse with the season cancellation?

And Gordon Hayward's contract, er, well...hm. Who knows if we may have seen his last game in a Celtics uniform back on Tuesday?

Would make sense to test the entire league apart from those 5 teams that Utah played in the last 10 days. Rudy Gobert might've gotten it from somebody else in another team in the NBA, but it looks like he's Patient 0.

Does anyone know why Gobert was tested in the first place? Known/suspected contact with virus and/or symptomatic? He was ready to play so I’m just wondering how this played out.

The rest of the team was tested after his test result. Why was he tested first?

Does anyone know why Gobert was tested in the first place? Known/suspected contact with virus and/or symptomatic? He was ready to play so I’m just wondering how this played out.

According to the Athletic:

Quote
Gobert underwent precautionary testing on Wednesday and received a positive result, sources said.

Sources say Gobert has been around people who recently traveled from France, but there is no clear determination on how he contracted the virus. Sources also say Gobert is feeling good, strong and stable, and was even hoping to play on Wednesday night against Oklahoma City. Gobert had enough energy to be able to play but spent the evening away from the Jazz, whose game with the Thunder in Oklahoma City was suspended.

Gobert, according to sources, felt strong enough to play on Wednesday night. But he and backup point guard Emmanuel Mudiay were held out of action, after coming down with symptoms by Wednesday morning.

Gobert was asymptomatic up until Tuesday night. He was in contact with his teammates all the way up until Wednesday afternoon. According to the Jazz, Gobert tested negative for the flu on Wednesday morning. He also tested negative for strep throat and an upper respiratory infection. His symptoms then diminished over the course of the day. But, as a precautionary measure, the decision was made to test for the coronavirus.

The Jazz say a preliminary positive result came back in the moments before tipoff. The league office was immediately informed and the decision was made to postpone the game and halt the season.

The Athletic has a paywall, if anyone is interested in the whole story I'm happy to post it here.

I imagine that would be the last thing both of them would want for their reputations - to look terrible and out of shape after not having played for months/a year and for the Nets to get bundled out of the playoffs anyway.

Durant was looking to play in the Olympics.  If it is June/July, everyone will not have played for 3 months.

Beating up on overmatched teams in the Olympics with a Dream Team of other superstars that would be prohibitive favorites to get the gold, where he might not play more than 15 mins a game, might be less challenging for him than trying to carry a Nets team to a win against the defending champion Raptors when he's coming back after a year off. Stranger things have happened, maybe he decides he can do better than PG13, Boogie and Hayward did after a year off with no real practice and likes the idea of being a hero but I wouldn't be betting on it, personally.

The olympics is in Japan

What’s the chances nba players pull out of fear of getting the virus in Japan?

would be cool if team usa  rolled instead with the college kids who didn’t get a chance to go to the ncaa tournament.

Very possible. Just my opinion, I have a feeling it might get postponed. I'm not sure how you could possibly do it, particularly if things get worse. Holding it without crowds would be a financial disaster.

I don't think the Tokyo Olympics are happening this year.  Fall at the earliest would be my guess and even that seems like a far off possibililty.

You have a global pandemic and then you decide to host the largest international event in the world?  That's not happening anytime in the near future.

That's a lot of money wasted and lost. All the commercial sponsorships and venues and stuff. If they do cancel, it won't be postponement....they'll just move on to the 2024 Olympics.

As far as I've interpreted it, the Tokyo Olympics can only be postponed to a date later in the calendar year.

Weird times. Can't imagine Japan / the world would be dumb enough to force the Olympics in such a time
