My heart aches for Al Horford in all of this.

He's got at least 97 million pieces of paper to cry into.

I have exactly zero sympathy for Al Horford. He signed with a  team whose best player PLAYS HIS POSITION and has never actually proven itself capable of winning anything. And he got paid.

LOL tough crowd here....

At this rate dude will soon be sitting at the same table with Kyrie.

I don't have an ounce of sympathy for Al. He chose not only to leave, he went to our rival.

I hope he never wins another game there.

I'm not gonna fault a guy for going for the money, but i'm also not naive enough to believe it was purely financial. He went to Philly at least in part because he believed they were closer to winning than we were so let it burn...

Good points, here....

There is still PLENTY of time for PHI to pull this thing together but what a narrative at the end of the season if they DON'T............

So many pundits in the Sports Media were picking them to come out of the East....either they or MIL..

Now? Seemingly BOTH of these teams - while still GREAT teams - are also vulnerable.

On PHI you have a Center that is the BEST Big out there but isn't guaranteed to stay on the floor.

You also have Unicorn without a Three point shot.

Can you play Simmons at PF? What about Al Horford, then? How would Al feel about coming off the bench?

If the losses keep piling up (they play HOU tonight) then what?

Would firing Bret Brown be the answer? IMO that would be foolish in that I think he's a quality coach.

Trade Simmons?

Here's hoping that these two deserving teams (MIL and PHI) play each other in the playoffs, have 3 overtime games in EACH game, and pummel each other into submission before the winner plays BOS.

If we had to do a 2016 Draft Re-draft, I don't even think Ben Simmons goes Top-4. It's no secret that when the Sixers are playing late in a close game, the Sixers are playing 4 on 5 on offense because the entire world knows Simmons isn't shooting jumpers. Simmons can put up numbers but he's not carrying a team to wins. The Sixers will go as far as a healthy Embiid takes them.

Sixers are 5th in the East, but they are still on a 52 win pace, which is actually better than last year.  They are also only 0.5 games behind Toronto for the 4th seed, though are just 0.5 games ahead of Indiana for 6th.  Now I'm sure they'd rather not have to play Milwaukee in the semi's, but I don't think any other team really scares them in the playoffs.  And that is really all that matters for the Sixers.  As long as they are healthy for the playoffs, I don't think they really care about seeding all that much other than trying to avoid the Bucks as long as possible.  And it is the playoffs from which the Sixers will be judged.

Given the history of their postseason, and the exception being the closely knit game 7 series against the Raptors, do the 76ers even qualify for being able to have post-season success bragging rights?
No. That is why this year matters a great deal for them, but only the post season matters.  If they finish as the 8th seed but make the finals the tear was a success.  If they end as the 1 seed and lose in the 1st round it will be a giant failure.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

How in the world would you propose a real currently several games under .500 wins three series without homecourt advantage to make the finals?

76ers getting pantsed again on national tv, lets all keep up with this nonsense of how good they are as their players and coaches slowly

Sixers fan likening their team to Celtics of 2018-2019, capable of beating top teams but could go on losing streaks.

Not sure why this thread became about Al Horford when it is about Embiid apparently criticizing Simmons.

It has happened before.  heck not that long the ago the 4 seed Cavs were in the NBA Finals (and they finished 21-20 on the road).  Now granted that first series they had home court and they had Lebron James and had been there before, but it does happen.  I think the last time what you suggest happened was the 99 Knicks who as the 8th seed and well below .500 on the road ended up making the finals.  Rockets in 95 were the NBA champions as the 6th seed.  they were 22-19 on the road, so above .500, but won 4 playoff series as the road team.  They had been there before also, but let's not pretend the Sixers don't have the 2nd best player in the conference on their team because they do.

Talent wins in the post-season.  We've seen that time and time again.  Heck last year the Raptors won the final 2 playoff series as the road team almost entirely because Leonard was the best player on the floor in those 2 series.  Every series in the East except against the Bucks, Embiid will be the best player on the court.  Even in the Toronto series last year, the Sixers were something like +100 with him and -115 without him.  I have no idea if Embiid's brilliance will be enough, but it absolutely could be no matter where they play the games.  He has the potential to be that good.

Your comps are a team with the second greatest player ever that was a 4 seed and a team 20 years ago? Can you seriously make stronger points than this? This isn’t even worth responding to.

Kyrie is a different animal. Horford OTOH, took more money going to a rival team because he thinks they're the best team who will contend for a title this year and in the next few years.

Embiid says losing is taking a toll on him:https://www.libertyballers.com/2020/1/4/21049234/following-loss-to-rockets-joel-embiid-says-losing-is-taking-a-toll-on-him

Add him to the chorus of Brett brown, Richardson and Horford expressing frustration with the team/season. But hey, franchise player getting upset doesn’t matter cause it is regular season and the 99 Knicks made it as an 8 seed right?
