You wonder if this is a sales pitch to future free agents. "See how Kyrie treated us? But we still honored him. We are for our players in Boston."

Quite possibly....

If you've noticed, Ainge has gone out of his way to say positive things about Kyrie

Smart....it looks bad if you bad mouth a former player, even if he was difficult to work with.

Good PR for future potential free agents.

If that's the case, the whole idea might backfire. What happens if he gets massively booed by the crowd?

I will say this, I expect it will get ugly.

Probably won't help that sports radio will be baiting people all day before the game.

I think we’re doing it for two reasons:

A) Show future FAs we’re classy
B) Massively Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. with Kyrie’s head

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
They probably will, they do it for just about everyone that play any significant minutes for us.
Does that mean we see video tributes for Marcus Morris, Al Horford and Terry Rozier too?

Wait, was Morris given one when he came to town?

I don't necessarily agree, but with guys like IT and Kyrie, they were All-NBA players as Celtics. One was obviously much more [deservedly] beloved than the other, but they both attained a high level of personal success in a Cs uniform.

I mean, even Jae Crowder got a video.

My only worry here is that everybody is going to boo - like guaranteed (and I do understand why) - and that will be a little strange. It's too bad Irving jilted us, but we were more than able to pick up the pieces with Kemba.

Nope. Hurt shoulder.

I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't show up at all in the Garden this season.

If Danny didn't want C's fans to boo Kyrie they won't have a video tribute.  If there is a video tribute for Kyrie I can see the arena just exploding with boos.  I'm indifferent and don't care about Kyrie at this point because I absolutely love out team but a lot of fans have Kyrie as enemy #1.  If they show a tribute then all hells going to break loose.  Finally, what the heck has Kyrie done to deserve a video tribute.  Are they going to show him with fans waiving and cheering while moving trucks are shown on route to the edge of the earth?  He really didn't do anything that deserves a tribute.

Just say no to a tribute for someone who barely wore Celtics green. That does not make sense to me in any form.

3-1 odds he does not show up in Boston and needs to stay back for rehabilitation.

Why? I don't ask this because I don't like the guy, but what did he do to deserve a tribute?

We have 17 banners hanging over head, and they're going to give a guy who played a few years, accomplished 0, a tribute?

Lol, they don't want him to be booed but what they're doing is giving the fans a chance to warm up with this waste of time.

This isn't showing that we're classy, what this is showing is the C's org is like the girl who gets treated like garbage from the bad boy yet still has a soft spot for him. It's a joke.

I don't think any player when deciding between boston and another is going to have this factor in at all.

Win, and pay your guys, that's what attracts players. Films made by an intern thanking a player for keeping the bench warm while the team made a run does 0.

Exactly. It is like the Nets giving Pierce a tribute video or KG. :)

As someone who wanted Irving to stay in Boston, what may gone unnoticed last season amidst the drama is he actually posted a career high in assists, steals, blocks and rebounds (among other categories.)
https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/celtics/kyrie-irving-set-career-highs-all-these-stats-celtics-season

He was also one of only four players to average at least 23 points, six assists and five rebounds per game.

He always put on a show. Unfortunately, the 2nd round of the playoffs came around, and that was the end. If you can't perform in the playoffs, you're doomed.

I just can't help thinking about the what ifs......

What If Kyrie Irving had a FULLY HEALED Gordon Hayward LAST YEAR...the same version we're enjoying THIS YEAR?

He would've had a VETERAN ALPHA going to battle with him.....I doubt there would've have been any alleged "Power Plays" from the Young Uns (allegedly Tatum and Brown...maybe Rozier)?

Kyrie Irving was left walking into a situation where he HAD to lead...lead a group of young uns that had just ALMOST accomplished the impossible......

A group of young uns that were probably not going to give him much leeway....

I "LOVE" Tatum and Brown...let me make that clear. But I really believe that things would've fallen right inline if Gordon Hayward was back LAST YEAR....

There would've been a CLEAR chain of command...Kyrie / Hayward as the Alphas...Big Al as the Quiet but talented 2A......

We can believe what we want to...and I'm just making assumptions. But I "REALLY" wonder how things would've turned out if Hayward was healthy last year.

For all the wailing and gnashing of teeth with Kyrie I can see why Marcus Smart gives him SOME leeway. Smart sees the big picture.

Look - if people WANT to boo - BOO.

But I REALLY believe we'll be taking the High Road by just cheering him upon his return....I say this because I am certain there are things that happened last year that as fans we were NOT privvy to.

I am still in the camp of Let it Go.
