I found Stevens comments after the game interesting regarding the starting big spot. Said that they came pretty close to starting Poirier tonight.

Based on Poirier's play I'm going to assume it was a really sarcastic joke.

I don't think it was a joke.

Brad said the starting 5 in the preseason may change from game to game.

Everyone is assuming that Poirier would start in place of Theis but what if Stevens meant he would start two bigs.  I guess if he specifically referred to "the big spot" that is clear enough.

As to the roster possibilities, yeah, Waters and Green have been good but they really don't fill any pressing need for us.  Big depth is our need so that is why I would be surprised if they give up on Semi in favor of one of these guys.  Waters seems to be in as a 2-way so I see no purpose to keep Green over Semi.  Now Green vs. Strus, that one could go either way with no real impact.  Any of Strus, Green, Waters (essentially 3rd or 4th string guards) are far easier to replace if needed than Semi (a deep bench big).

I'm just not sold on Semi as a big man.

Celts already have Grant Williams, another undersized big, but way better than Semi.

I m guessing Semi is the coachs pet on this team.

Just watching this game now.  Jaylen looks so improved.  Wow.  I hope this is for real.  The the game looks like it has slowed down for him and his handle looks much better.

Tommy just said Edwards could be a fullback.  He's at least 30 pounds light for that.  He'd be light even for a tailback.  People underestimate how jacked NFL players are.

He is definitely the size of most cornerbacks and safeties.

Weight, yeah, but not muscularity.  He's not built like these guys.

Well those guys are in their 30's. He is 21.

Different sport, different needs. He has the size of most CBs and safeties. If he played football, yes, he would have more muscle definition. But, he did do the bench press 14 times at the combine so if he had an off-season of football workouts, he would probably have a bit more definition. He is still very strong and has a lot of muscle on him.

Different sport, different needs, that's all that needs to be said.  I was just laughing at Tommy comparing him to a fullback.

Just an FYI, NBA players test their bench press at 185, NFL players test at 225.

FYI, I knew that. It doesn't make him any less strong. It also doesn't mean he isn't the size of most CBs and safeties. And that is all I am saying. Most PGs don't have football player size or strength. Edwards does. Tommy just got the position wrong.

Now that he will be under the tutelage of professional NBA trainers, I could easily see Edwards looking like jacked NFL CB in 3 years.

Edwards is strong and athletic.  I love how he jumps into his shots.  He's going to be an electric scorer off the bench.  I'm looking forward to it.

He would do well to pattern his game to that of IT's. He has that body type  that, with work, will allow him to take it inside, take the long season beating, draw tons of contact and finish through it.

Yeah, they are a lot more weaker.   But I think guys like Smart of Grant could still do the 225 reps decent if they had too.  When I played ball in the Army, I could do 225lbs 32 times and I always get a kick when they talk how strong NBA guys are because they are not usually.

I don't think it was a joke.

Brad said the starting 5 in the preseason may change from game to game.

My thought is that he’s seriously considering Poirier as his defensive 5 option against bigs like Embiid or Aldridge who would otherwise be able to overpower the likes of Theis or Timelord. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Poirier get some solid minutes against Cleveland if Tristan Kardashian plays.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

I'm surprised that someone talked about Waters' tendency to hold onto the ball too much and shoot when he should pass lol, I thought I was the only guy who saw it (to be fair I only watched the full game highlights, but even from watching his highlights I could see that he's a bit of a ball hog tbh).

Sadly, it is how guys think they will get on the team a lot and ruins summer league play.    Waters is fast and seem to be able to get to the rim, but when someone is open throw them the ball!
Agreed. He had a bunch of opportunities to throw some Bird layup passes but opted to dribble the ball for ten seconds and chuck up a contested jumpshot or layup after a drive to the basket.

It's not just his handle, his passing has gotten a lot better, I saw him make some high leverage layup passes that he would've whiffed last season.
