2019 Historical Draft Thread(TIME TO REVEAL THE WINNER!!!)

With the 7th pick in the 6th round the Portland Trailblazers select the 1st great player in league history George Mikan.

5 championship in his first 6 years, then retired at 29.  Played before they had league MVP or Finals MVP, otherwise he'd probably have 5 of each of them.  ESPN has him as the 33rd greatest player in league history despite him playing basically just 6 seasons (he came back after a year off and played sparingly).

I actually think Klay, Dray and Manu are rounds too early.

I was tossing back and forth between Gervin and Westphal in the 4th round. I wanted Grant Hill in the 5th round but I was worried about the alternatives at SF if Hill wasn't there because they were not ball-handlers and I wanted a 2nd ball-handler next to Walt Frazier on the perimeter. If I knew I would've gotten Hill in the 5th, I would have taken Gervin back then.

Delighted Gervin was still around to take now. He will be starting alongside Hill and Frazier with Westphal off the bench. I think Gervin is the better fit with the rest of the lineup now that Hill is on board.

Shocking that both Mikan and Gervin fell this far. I think both are top 35 players in league history.

He was huge, so much bigger and stronger than all the competition.  Would have been a monster if raised today.  He could pass.  He's a winner.  I rate him highly.  In the beginning of round 5, my BPA were 1-Pettit 2-Nash 3-Mikan all of whom I thought were 3rd round talents.

I actually think Klay, Dray and Manu are rounds too early.

I was considering Klay as a 5th round backup choice if my main guys were no longer available. Manu was one of my main options as a starting SG.

I am a huge Manu fan. I think he is equal to (if not better) than Ray Allen. Manu just didn't get the same exposure. Did not have his own team. And sacrificed so much in San Antonio. If he had his own team, I think he'd be thought of the same way Ray Allen is.

I loved the idea of Manu and Walt Frazier.

I really liked Klay as a fifth starter because of his shooting and defense. He'd slot into any type of lineup alongside any set of players. Valuable sort of versatility.

Mikan's similarity scores rank up there among the best bigs of all-time.

Mikan was bigger than everyone else, but was a sub-40% shooter.  I have a hard time projecting him in the modern era.

I'm sure that is why he lasted this long.  I was hesitant to take him as well for that reason, but at the end of the day he was the best player on the best team in the league for basically his entire career and he was imo by far the best player available. 

He played so long ago, it is really hard to place him.  I mean if you look at his FG%, you think man that is low, but each of his first 3 seasons when he shot basically 43, 41, and 42% he was in the top 5 in all 3 of those seasons.  Even the final 3 when he shot under 40%, he was 17, 12, and 17 in the league.  It was just a different game in the early 50's, but he led the league in scoring, he led the league in rebounding, and he was the best player in the league and on the best team.

I took Mikan off my board because I did not know what to do with him. How to rate his defense. How quick he was. How would he fare against other giants. The league was smaller then. The league was only beginning and was weaker back then. I don't think the league fully hit stride until the mid-60s.

All these things ... so basically I just did not know what to do with him so I left him off my draft board completely. I have done that with the other 1950s stars as well.

They had a great defense too.

Those Lakers teams were the original twin towers according to some things I have read (won't say the other guys name in case someone drafts him - think he was an All-Star player).

Mikan with his size probably played a big role in that defense.
