  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
We have our wings set. We have scoring from both inside and out. We have a distributor. And all of them can play terrific defense. It's now time for us to protect the rim, and we could not ask for a better guy to do so.

Nate Thurmond is a nice pick. There’s an issue of lane clogging, perhaps, but Thurmond was a great player.

I believe modern day NBA he'd adjust quite fine.

I believe with all the rosters here we are forced to adjust earlier players to modern day.

If Nate was a wide body I'd agree. But he was very athletic, slim, chiseled and rangy at 6'11" and only 225. He had good numbers passing-wise and I'm certain that he and Shaquille (Shaq being a great passer himself) would play well together.

I could easily see Nate covering a LOT of ground on the perimeter and defending well - leaving Shaq as Gate Guard down low.

That video about Wilt and Russell said it all for me.

Great rebounding on Miami

Thanks.

Additionally - Nate and PG13 are going to be great bookend defenders as well. And Shaq was no slouch defensively, either.

I like Dikembe a lot in this type of draft.  Big body with a lot of length who was also fast enough to stick with the more modern centers.  Offensively he isn't going to need touches at all, but can finish if called upon.  He is the perfect complimentary player in this sort of draft.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Sneaky good pick for that team as both MJ and Dumars can play and guard either PG or SG and both are elite defenders.

Sounds a lot like Nate Thurmond.

Like the Dikembe pick, though.

Love this Pick! was talking to my buddy the other day that I thought you should pick up Dikembe.
My favorite team right now and I think will win it all if you pick...the next guy I want you to pick. hahaha

Yeah. I may have overthunk it in the first round grabbing Kawhi, but I'm glad I got to build around him with a well balance team that is capable of defending just about anyone, and any style.

MJ, Dumars, & Rodman.

Not screwing around at all on the defensive end.  That's as tough as they come.

Both can play PG on offense as well.  Also I don't have to worry about Dumars out there defending Jordan!

Joe D was a guy I was eyeing at SG too (in the last round instead of Westphal). I thought he would work really well with Walt Frazier. I was going for that two guard backcourt type look.

Also, I believe Joe D would get a big boost in scoring efficiency from the three point line. He was a terrific shooter. Developed the shot as he went along in his career and became both a prolific and highly accurate three point shooter later in his career.

Imagine how good Joe D would be in his prime with that level of three point shooting ability added onto his game. He'd be awesome.

Yeah, that's what I meant when I said both could play(offense) and guard(defense) SG or PG. Lol.
