he's in his prime now. 5 years after being waived, you would hope a player would improve. he definitely has. i was impressed with his off-ball movement most. still probably a borderline nba player. perhaps a rotation guy in the right situation.

Pick him up, though I'm not sure if he's getting much playing time. Can he shoot and play lateral defense?

I think that since making that comment, Guerschon Yabusele will make his way back into the NBA for either San Antoino, Washington, Atlanta or Charlotte. Some team that has invested significant capital into young French prospects will likely talk themself into bringing in a staple of the extremely successful French Olympic team.

But the only way I could see it for Boston would be if there is a significant change to the rotation, like some type of consolidation trade where multiple players are sent out like Hauser, Queta, Kornett and/or Pritchard. Even if Horford retires he?d be competing with Tillman.

Just don?t see for Boston. It?s not Yabu, it?s me. ;

I don't see him competing with Tillman, I think he replaces Tillman.  He showed me everything in the Olympics that the C's were hoping to get.  He's a complete player now and would love to see him back.  I loved what Kornett gave, but he's not the physical big like Yabu.  He's the perfect replacement in a year for Horford!

I think Yabu is interesting b/c he seems to have solidified his 3 point shot as well as his conditioning/quickness, which has made him a better off-ball cutter, straight line driver, and likely a serviceable switchable defender for a big (no one was stopping curry on those switches, although maybe he could have put his hands up more).

On the downside, he doesn't completely replace Al because is not a rim protector, even if Al has declined there of late.  He is also just an average rebounder, which I suppose is similar to Al.

A+ locker room guy and fan favorite.

Yabu has improved a lot since his last run in the NBA.

He was raw offensively when he was here. He had the early stages of an outside shot but was too inconsistent. Now he has developed that shot up to a strong level. He is more comfortable putting the ball on the floor and making line drives. He has a few nice duck in post ups. He has become a well-rounded scorer & offensive PF.

Defensively, he still lacks some quickness. He is alright in one-on-ones but is slow on team defense. He carries a lot of extra weight. With the scrambling defense across the perimeter in the NBA, he would struggle more than he does in FIBA. The shorter three point line helps him a lot. As do the rules allowing more physicality defensively. He would be below average as a defender in the NBA.

His offense would be more of a plus than his defense a negative. Overall, I'd say he's more likely be a quality backup PF than a starter. An above average backup PF who can create matchup problems for the opponent with his now high offensive skill-level.

Given the money and large role he can get in European basketball, I am not sure it is in his interests to return to the NBA. His lack of positional versatility could make minutes harder to come by. On the wrong team, he could easily be limited to an 18-22mpg role. On a team with a weak starting PF/C that wants a high minute 6th man backup PF, Yabu could play 28-30mpg as a bench guy. If I were Yabu, I'd return to the NBA for that type of role. Otherwise I'd say in Europe where I could have a bigger role and more success. Sitting on the bench ain't fun.

Just In: France?s Guerschon Yabusele is in serious talks on a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, league sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Yabusele is resolving his $2.5 million contract buyout with Real Madrid as he nears NBA return.

That?s kind of funny that his poster dunk on Lebron probably netted him 2M and another NBA deal

Jokes aside though Yabu actually competed well on both ends against a stacked USA squad. He definitely deserved another shot off the bench somewhere

IIRC, buyouts are factored into the contract, so if he's getting the minimum (~$2 million for him with 2 years of pro experience) then it must be a multi-year deal. I'd guess at least the first 2 years guaranteed, maybe a third year partially guaranteed (or a player option?).

That seems fair for both sides, Yabusele gets a chance to prove he's grown his game in the last 5 years and belongs in the NBA, the 76ers get a potential role player for 2 years at the minimum. Sort of a win-win.

Edit: AAAAAND nope, it's one year at the minimum. I wonder what the deal with the buyout is...

Edit 2: The 6ers can cover $850k of the buyout without it counting against the salary cap, so he can either reach some agreement with Real Madrid for a lower buyout amount or, worst case, he'll be playing for around $400k this year. Definitely taking a risk since he would have made more overseas, but it could pay off really well for him if he has a good season. Good luck, Yabusele! (not the 6ers, though)

Is Yabu going to be their Porzingis/Horford-stopper?  :(
