Just In: France?s Guerschon Yabusele is in serious talks on a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, league sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Yabusele is resolving his $2.5 million contract buyout with Real Madrid as he nears NBA return.
IIRC, buyouts are factored into the contract, so if he's getting the minimum (~$2 million for him with 2 years of pro experience) then it must be a multi-year deal. I'd guess at least the first 2 years guaranteed, maybe a third year partially guaranteed (or a player option?).
That seems fair for both sides, Yabusele gets a chance to prove he's grown his game in the last 5 years and belongs in the NBA, the 76ers get a potential role player for 2 years at the minimum. Sort of a win-win.
Edit: AAAAAND nope, it's one year at the minimum. I wonder what the deal with the buyout is...
Edit 2: The 6ers can cover $850k of the buyout without it counting against the salary cap, so he can either reach some agreement with Real Madrid for a lower buyout amount or, worst case, he'll be playing for around $400k this year. Definitely taking a risk since he would have made more overseas, but it could pay off really well for him if he has a good season. Good luck, Yabusele! (not the 6ers, though)
