Kemba was great..but I am just a little concerned at how much time this is taking on a big. By the time it is settled absolutely no one of any value is going to be left on the board.
I hope Ainge has something set up that we do not know about because right now it looks grim.
It is back to asset building and growing our young players which I guess go hand in hand. Making a rash move like Smart and or Brown for a big might not be the most prudent long term move right now. It is not like we are trading for someone like Kat which is simply not happening without giving away our entire franchise and even then, not happening. Panic moves always come back to bite you in the end. I just don't see someone like Adams being worth losing a Smart or Brown. Makes no sense and I would actually begin to lose confidence in Ainge if did a knee jerk reaction which he usually does not do.
My expectations are set for next year as of now though, mid-high 40's win total and tough battle in first round of playoffs with hopefully a win. But it is only the first day of free agency so things can change for the better for us. They are definitely not the worst case which would have been no Kemba. If that happened, we could be looking at border of making playoffs. The better Hayward plays, the more likely we are to cross the 50 win total range but without a good big, we are not getting through certain teams in our conference as of now. Trade Smart for someone like Adams and we are probably not getting out of the first round.
We don't need to focus on wins. We need to focus on player development. I want to see Robert Williams get plenty of time as backup even if he's not ready for it. Let's really see what Brown brings to the table since we're looking at paying him 25%Max. Let's see if Tatum can step up to being a star.
For those of us that have ticket plans, what you're suggesting is an absolute nightmare and our money is basically wasted (perhaps I'm at fault for deciding to make the purchase.)
There's no reason however we should go back to rebuilding, especially when Ainge just spent $141 million on Kemba.
Plus, we know what we're getting with these guys. It's not like we haven't seen Tatum and Brown play before. Both guys are talented that need improving, but they need better players around them.
And the idea of starting Williams is a bad one (IMO.) Let's at least get a veteran center and have Williams be a back-up.
