Hate to say it but with no big men even in the east we are a fringe playoff team. Lets be honest we don't have a legit starting NBA PF or Center on our team and I'm not convinced Danny has a plan to bring any here.
Bizarre take.

Am I being to optimistic or pessimistic? I mean I know some people have Grant Williams in the HoF but I can't go there yet. Don't get me wrong I really like our talent 1-3 but when you don't have a legit big in a game of big people seems hard to compete to me. Did I miss something? Did we get a couple of NBA bigs?
Pessimistic.

I wanted to trade Kyrie at the allstar break.

We could of gotten a good big.

Should have traded him the day after he got in Steven's face at end of Orlando game.

To be fair, right now this front court would get absolutely spanked by Horford + Embiid (PHI), Gasol + Ibaka (TOR), Lopez + Giannis (MIL), Turner + Sabonis + others (IND), etc.

We're still a Top-4 or 5 team in the East for sure, but if they don't add to this frontcourt soon, I fear everyone else gets scooped up and we're left praying Timelord looks legit right away.

Really think Yi Jianlian would fit Stevens' system as a 4/5. Sully could also be an option too.

so, what does all this mean so far for the celtics coming up next season?  everything depends upon tatum, hayward, and brown making a jump in their game. that, combined with walker and smart will give them an extremely good backcourt and set of wings.

it will be hard for many teams to keep up with them if they run and shoot well...IF they all make that jump and IF CBS can bring these talents together as a team they can be competitive in the east.

i can see them being anywhere from 1st in the east (literally everything breaks right. they come together and their wings and guards dominate everyone with P&R, etc.) to a 5th or 6th seed.

it will be an interesting season and the east looks to be competitive teams 1 through 5.

Being less pessimistic that's what I'm saying. Hope for a first round win if you're lucky with that team. When the offense is flowing they can out score teams but when it's not we will see games they get killed by 30!

Yi Jianlian is still around? Wow I remember him from 10 years ago when he was a New Jersey Nets.

I don't. Two of the most important for bigs is (1) quickness and mobily (2) ability to make multiple effort plays. The ability to make a second effort, third effort, fourth effort, etc.

Yi is not just bad at making multiple effort plays. He is terrible at it. Because of that, he is a lousy defender and an even worse rebounder.

He is a pretty solid offensive player although he relies too heavily on jump-shots (vs NBA level defenders) which hurts his scoring efficiency ... but what he brings to the table offensively doesn't come close to what he takes away from table with his terrible defense & rebounding.

Every team Boston has to go through in the East has multiple bigs...Milwaukee, Philly and Indiana.

Boston has Rob Williams and Theis...with little being on the open market left. It might come down to a trade to fill the spot with a quality big.

I feel the same way.  It wouldn't surprise me to see Ainge move some assets for an established big.  This would likely need to wait until the middle of next month, mainly because 2019 rookies cannot be moved yet.

The Celtics really need to embrace an uptempo style of play next season, especially against a team like Philly.  Conditioning should be a huge priority for Tatum, Brown, and Hayward.

I am guessing Capella is off the market now because Butler is going to Miami eventually.

Level setting Boston for the morning:

A Kemba-Rozier double S&T requires Boston to get just as far under the cap as signing Kemba outright would have. They can keep Theis but need to renounce Morris. They have the RME ($4.767M) NOT the MLE ($9.258M).

Danny might have been too confident that the sign and trade was as good as done and therefore we did not draft a big in that first round of the draft. Hindsight is 20-20 though but the gamble there did not pay off. That hurts us a ton this coming year and a few Euro centers will probably not move the needle for us.

Sixers and Al hurts a lot since they have to rest Embiid. I expect more wins with this during regular season as the drop off for their center will not be as bad as previous years.  They will be a tough out if someone can grow into the killer at end of games. Not sure Harris is that player but he is sure being paid like one. The twin towers will be super tough for a team like ours though.

It really hurts to see other teams do sign and trades when their stars are out the door. People are probably trying to fleece Danny for that Memphis pick and we are left having to say no as a result. There is no reason for NJ or Philly to do a sign and trade with us though. Why would they want help us.  It would make little sense.

NJ put together a mini super team like we were hoping to do. With the loss of their draft picks over the past few years, it is nothing short of amazing how they have set their franchise up. Yes, the gamble of Durant is huge but the payoff is as well. It could come down to a 56 M per year waste(first year is free money for him as he wont play) or a 56M boost to the top of our conference.

Our best move might unfortunately be to suffer this coming year, let our young players and bide our time to get a big somehow, somewhere. Not sure rushing into trading away a part of our core is the smart thing to do now as most of the good bigs are gone. No, we are not getting Kat either, that is beyond a pipe dream right now. They just signed him long term and we are not gutting our franchise for a player who has yet to show he can rise in big situations.

Knicks most likely will have eyes on Giannis now in 2021. They really crapped the bed so to speak. NJ outperformed them big this offseason so far.

Danny did good with Kemba though. Big signing after losing Kyrie. Shows we are still viable for some players.

Kemba was great..but I am just a little concerned at how much time this is taking on a big. By the time it is settled absolutely no one of any value is going to be left on the board.

I hope Ainge has something set up that we do not know about because right now it looks grim.
