Whether the Celtics are a threat in the East will depend on what happens with Leonard in Toronto and Butler/Harris in Philly more than anything else. The Celtics with Walker still have nobody up front to come close to matching these teams, and Ainge will have to pull a couple of rabbits out of a hat to defend the paint. It's true, in my view, that Ainge has not prioritized bigs in the past, and you could say that was the case with Davis, though there was a lot more to that.
I don't believe the Celtics are a real contender unless they get stronger up front defensively. If Danny doesn't acknowledge that, it will be akin to Dave Dombrowski saying the Red Sox bullpen is "fine."
