Two cancers out, one leader in.
This is possibly a big thing for this still young team. Kemba is not as good as Kyrie, but he's close, and if he is better in the locker room it could have a major impact.

Kemba is not bringing us to the championship.  Our funds would have been better spent on a player who can bring our level to championship caliber. DA has to prioritize big men more or the championship drought will continue until he is gone.

Which championship caliber player was signing here?

There in lies the problem.  We give away a max contract to a point guard and we can’t entice the real impact players to come here.

Again: assuming Kemba wasn't coming here, what "championship caliber player" was signing here?

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, and in this case there wasn't even one in the bush

Some people will never be happy.  Great deal.  Helps with the loss of our two stars.  Keeps the team in the mix and if our youngs develop they will be at the top of the east yet people still want to complain.  Any way you slice the pie the same people will Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline..

How many free agents are “impact” players, though?

Kawhi, obviously. Durant in a year.

Those are the only guys clearly above Kawhi, I think, and it’s pretty unrealistic to hope for either.

Seriously, tho, with all of Kemba, Jaylen, Jayson, Gordon, and Smart either worthy of starter minutes or thinking they are, how do we avoid the problems we had last year? Yes Terry and Kyrie were immature, but they really will need to set a pecking order people will tolerate. Hope they will do better now that they’ve had some time to think on it and will be  able to set a new tone next season.

Smart should go back to 6th man. He's comfortable in that role.

Gordon, Jaylen and Jayson need to work their stuff out. Basically listen to Brad. Watch film of the Warriors. They didn't have a problem sharing the ball.

Need to really emphasize ball movements and back cuts.  The Warriors are masters of this. That's why Looney idea makes a lot of sense to me.

One under the radar name to keep an eye on as free agency gets underway: Shane Larkin. The ex-Celtics PG had a great season for Anadolu Efes in the Turkish Super League in 2018-19 (12 ppg, 45 percent on threes), leading Anadolu to EuroLeague title game. Also TSL Finals MVP. (1/2)

Cs still have his NBA rights. He's believed to have an opt-out clause in his contract thru mid-July for an NBA deal. After Cs sign Kemba, they'd have a decision on what 2 do w/Larkin (they already declined QO to Brad Wanamaker). Other teams interested, but PG glut a factor. (2/2)

Per source, as of now Terry Rozier’s qualifying offer has not been renounced. The Suns, Knicks, Mavericks, Bulls, Hornets and Magic have all expressed interest in the point guard.

Uh, considering Rozier is gone, we absolutely, positively need a backup PG. So what exactly are you talking about?

I am happy to go into the season with the two rookie 2nd rounders as backup PGs behind Kemba. Edwards looks a good NBA prospect who will have a long NBA career. I am happy with Edwards as the backup PG. The other guy, Waters, looks interesting as a 3rd string.

They also have Smart (if he is not traded for a center) who can play PG.

I do not think they need another small PG like Larkin.

He'd be the only true PG on the roster...it's not like we are overloaded at the position.

Smart will be the back up PG. He will be the sixth man and slide between PG and SG, depending on the matchups

I'd love to have Larkin back, we could have really used him last season as well. A legit point guard who got the ball moving, played hard defense and hit the open jumpers.

Whether the Celtics are a threat in the East will depend on what happens with Leonard in Toronto and Butler/Harris in Philly more than anything else. The Celtics with Walker still have nobody up front to come close to matching these teams, and Ainge will have to pull a couple of rabbits out of a hat to defend the paint. It's true, in my view, that Ainge has not prioritized bigs in the past, and you could say that was the case with Davis, though there was a lot more to that.

I don't believe the Celtics are a real contender unless they get stronger up front defensively. If Danny doesn't acknowledge that, it will be akin to Dave Dombrowski saying the Red Sox bullpen is "fine."

Yeah, Brooklyn bigs vs. Philly was ugly in the playoffs.

I'm not able to keep up with all of the different threads, so in case it hasn't been posted, Celtics are showing interest in a three team sign and trade.
