Kemba was great..but I am just a little concerned at how much time this is taking on a big. By the time it is settled absolutely no one of any value is going to be left on the board.

I hope Ainge has something set up that we do not know about because right now it looks grim.

It is back to asset building and growing our young players which I guess go hand in hand. Making a rash move like Smart and or Brown for a big might not be the most prudent long term move right now. It is not like we are trading for someone like Kat which is simply not happening without giving away our entire franchise and even then, not happening. Panic moves always come back to bite you in the end. I just don't see someone like Adams being worth losing a Smart or Brown. Makes no sense and I would actually begin to lose confidence in Ainge if did a knee jerk reaction which he usually does not do.

My expectations are set for next year as of now though, mid-high 40's win total and tough battle in first round of playoffs with hopefully a win. But it is only the first day of free agency so things can change for the better for us. They are definitely not the worst case which would have been no Kemba. If that happened, we could be looking at border of making playoffs. The better Hayward plays, the more likely we are to cross the 50 win total range but without a good big, we are not getting through certain teams in our conference as of now. Trade Smart for someone like Adams and we are probably not getting out of the first round.

I get your concern, but there’s been exactly two bigs, Ed Davis and Robin Lopez, who signed for at or below an amount the Celtics could have paid.  And Robin Lopez teamed up with his brother, so we really only missed out on Ed Davis.  This hurts a little, because Davis was near the top of my board for room-exception bigs, but there are others out there as well.

It’s not necessarily that Ainge is twiddling his thumbs, it’s that most of the players he’d target are still looking for bigger offers for the next couple of days.  It’s also been only 15 hours of free agency.

If Williams is the starting center and backed up by Theis...that is just the worst front court maybe ever in the NBA. Neither of those guys are ready for that...esp Williams. I do not see how they can go into the NBA season with that.

And what are they going to get for a 4.7 MLE? Probably a back up that has to get starters minutes. It would be great if Williams could be grown like you said but he just looks like a several year project at this point. Maybe in year 3 or 4 but not next year.

But if the players he has targeted want more money than he has...what exactly in the next option?

We don't need to focus on wins.  We need to focus on player development.  I want to see Robert Williams get plenty of time as backup even if he's not ready for it.  Let's really see what Brown brings to the table since we're looking at paying him 25%Max.  Let's see if Tatum can step up to being a star.

You wait for the one who realizes the money is all gone, and/or wants a short deal to try again next year.

Heard Danny and Sully were spotted in a Chinese restaurant in China the other day. :) JK but I do see us bringing in one Euro and maybe some reclamation project. We will see. 4.7M wont get us much right now and Cousins is not going to take that just so he can play in Boston.

Will be interesting to see who we pencil in as our starting Center. A lot can happen still but I would not be surprised to see us bide our time. Danny will be watching summer league closely too for potential diamonds wearing coal clothing. Signing any big that semi shows he can run the floor.

Oh I expect Danny to sign the big from France. Have no idea what he brings but he is 7'0.

While you are right it's going to be hard for most of us fans to admit we are not a contender this upcoming year after going to game 7 of the ECF then coming into this prior year as the favorite out of the east.  It was a short time ago that we were all flying high.  Now it's we will make the playoffs but we are not good enough to compete with Philly, Bucks, Indy.  I am all for developing timelord.  I think by the end of the year he can be a 25 minute per game defensive force.  If he shows the effort in rebounding we will be better.  We need someone else for depth because I can't see Timelord and Theis being our two centers.  Theis should be the 3rd option and we should have another player splitting time with Williams.  Adams is a perfect fit with this team and it's a shame there is no way to grab him.  The C's need defense and rebounding at the center position.  Someone who can roll to the rim and hit a 15 ft pick and pop shot.  They don't even need to be a 3 pt shooter with the scorers the C's have.  Just see ball.  Go get ball.

There is a glut of quality bigs that can play significant roles on a contender that will be within our range once the crazy money and dashed dreams of early free agency wear off. Seriously nothing to worry about here

love the confidence but if you could offer a few examples that would go even further to allay the current level of hysteria.  who'd you have in mind?

Looking FAs who haven't been signed (along with Noel)

Noel
Kanter
Vonleh
Kyle O'Quinn
Cousins (lol Brad would be so mad)
Looney
Bell (RFA)
WCS
JaMychal Green
Faried

I'm not as calm about it but we should be able to get a rotation together. Supposedly they don't know which exception they will have access to after the S&T at the moment.

I'd be perfectly fine with missing the playoffs this season.  Sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward.  We're not going to be a contender unless our young guys step up.  Getting some vets to make the playoffs is fine for lesser orgs where making the playoffs is an accomplishment but it doesn't get you to being a contender.

I think we only have the room exception and vet minimums so getting both is not likely.
