Hopefully, for me atleast, Malcolm Brogdon and a big.
I'm at the point of obsession in wanting Malcolm Borgdon play for us. Perfect fit, would not hinder in the development of our blue chip prospects, and would add overall quality to the squad.
Whatever is left of it, give to a big. A DeWayne Dedmon maybe.
I really like Brogdon, but you guys really need to tamper expectations... Paying a role player over $20 million isn't smart business sense...
People ostracize anyone who thinks Draymond should get the max, (he was in the discussion for super max which was vehemently shut down,) and yet Brogdon should get one or close to it?
That being said, Draymond should absolutely get the max, and it wasn't even a question that he deserved one. Super max? Yeah probably not, but Draymond has been one of the best defenders, and a huge reason for why they made it so far despite consistent nagging injuries.
But see, that's the thing. If we sign him for $20+ million AAV, you don't play him as a role player, you start him at PG and make him one of the core of the team, and I think he can do that.
He in Milwaukee, as a role player, put up decent offensive number, shot with crazy good efficiency, was a versatile player, and played terrific defense. He was in the top 20 in the league in EFG% and Offensive Rating, he led the league in FT% and is in the top 10 in 3PTFG%.
You give that player more playing time (he averaged 28 minutes a game last season), a couple more extra shots, and it's not impossibly for Brogdon to be a 20 - 5 - 5 guy shooting at very good efficiency, and offering the extra stuff that he can bring.
(for reference, Brogdon's Per 36 last year, 19.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4 assists, 0.9 steals, 1.8 TO's)
I have done these in other threads, but I call him the guard version of Al Horford. He won't wow you with 20+ points per game, but he's going to do all the right things on the court. He will be play tough, unselfish, and efficient basketball, and fill the stat sheet quite decently. We didn't mind paying Horford the max for what he brought, so I don't see why we can't do the same with Brogdon.
And most of all, like I keep saying, if we put a big offer sheet on Brogdon (assuming he signs it) we put the Milwaukee Bucks in a position to either lose him, or retain him, but teeter around, or go over the lux tax line, essentially affecting their ability to improve their team.
I really want him to be a Celtic, and I would again go as far as to say that even at the max, it's worth having him.
