Disagree. He might be saying the Celtics are already attractive to Kyrie. He also doesn't want to throw Kyrie's teammates under the bus.

You're right that it's possible to interpret that quote in a positive direction.

But if that's what he meant, why not say, "I think Kyrie really likes the team we have and is going to be interested in coming back" or something like that?

The potential "positive" implication of the quote is that the roster is already so good that the effect that the roster could have on Kyrie's decision-making is already maxed out.   Or alternatively, that Ainge believes that Kyrie loves Boston so much that it won't matter who is on the roster.

That doesn't seem like a reasonable interpretation, given what we saw this year and what Kyrie has said in the past.

There is a third (neutral) interpretation of it: that Danny hasn't specifically discussed roster changes with Kyrie and is unsure what changes (if any) would make the team more attractive to Kyrie. Honestly, I look at it as kind of a nothing quote (most stuff from interviews is). It's vague enough that you can use it to validate your opinion, no matter what that is

And I think that's the most practical interpretation.

I didn't watch the video but saw Jay King's tweets about what Danny said.

Sure sounds to me like Danny expects Kyrie to be gone.

Paraphrasing: "I'm not sure anything we do roster wise could make the Celtics more attractive to him".

Also sounds like Danny is laying the groundwork for bringing Terry back.

Paraphrasing: "In the right circumstances I think Boston is a place Terry could thrive and be happy".

That does sound like he is gone for sure no matter if Davis is here or not. Can you imagine this board if the Terry era begins this coming season?

Can you imagine the sorry state of Celtic Basketball if it boils down to Terry freaking rozier as a starting PG?

My god that is just a terrible though. terrible.

I cannot, off the top of my head, think of a worse starting PG in the LEAGUE.

I would wager a few Backups that are better PGS than Terry.

Even if we assume that he could replicate his playoff production as a long term starter, he would still be a below average starting option.  Though he has the confidence and demeanor of a top 10 point guard, at least.

If the Celts trade for Anthony Davis anyway while retaining Jaylen, Hayward, and Horford, Terry could be acceptable as a fifth starter.  But I'm not sure he'll ever be happy on a team where he isn't empowered to be one of the top 3 scoring options.

In that situation you go hard with full MLE at Rubio or Beverly. (assuming smart is not retained)

Beverly is an otheroworldly defender who can knock down shots and set up teammates.

Gordon is point forward.

Brown is 3andd with driving abilities.

Horford playmakes

Davis is #1 alpha dog scorer.

I agree.  I'd hope the team would look into Darren Collison, Pat Beverley, and Ricky Rubio.

You could be right that it's a standard non-answer.  I think it's kind of a weird thing to say if you're trying to deflect.

He could just say "We've had a lot of discussions with Kyrie and at this point we just don't know what he's going to do, but we're going to make our best pitch to him and I think we have a very good situation to offer him" or something like that.

Its interesting how an interview can be interpreted in different ways.

For some, Danny's noncommittal responses is just further proof that Kyrie is gone.

For others, it's just more of the "no news" we all expect at this point.
it's a selective or confirmation bias.

I'd like to also point out that Danny saying that he'll "never regret" the Kyrie trade "whatever happens," implies at the very least that he thinks that Kyrie leaving is a distinct possibility.  You don't say that if you feel confident you're going to retain the player.

I'm not sure if he was asked point blank, "If Kyrie leaves would you regret the trade" or "If Kyrie leaves would that change how you feel about the trade" or something like that.  That would obviously be different than if he said the thing re: not regretting the trade without being prompted.

The part that terrified me was Ainge acknowledging they could bring back Rozier. UGH.  :(

I don't take away too much from his answers about Kyrie. Truth is, he probably doesn't know right now either and neither does Kyrie. Which is also why I'm not as convinced Kyrie to BKN is a given right now. Both Kyrie and KD I think have no clue what they are doing in FA yet and these reports are mostly just filler.

Ask yourself, has Woj, Shams, Stein or anyone truly respected said anything about their FA's yet? It's mostly coming from Windhorst, Bucher, Kyler, Broussard, Stephen A Smith, Nick Wright, etc. lol.

Like the rest of us Danny probably doesn’t know. I’m sure Kyries agent has kept him closeted and quiet like a good agent should.

I think this is mostly based on whether the person wants Kyrie to stay or go.

Boy, if we lose Kyrie and keep Rozier ... I may not be able to watch at all next season.

All of the reports out there certainly suggest that somebody in Kyrie's camp is leaking to the media that he's interested in going to one of the NY teams.

It could be tough.

But there's still the chance that Jaylen and Tatum make the leap we've been waiting for and Hayward comes back much closer to what he was in Utah.

If they hold onto Horford on top of that, they could be genuinely enjoyable to watch.

Unless you're one of those who can't stomach the idea of watching the team when they're not one of a handful of teams with the best pre-season odds to win the title.

By reliable sources? Or some one like Stephen A Smith?

This is where watching the interview would be beneficial. He was asked about the risk of trades and how the Celtics felt about taking risks in regards to deals (i.e. Anthony Davis). He answered along the lines of "there's risk in every trade, but we're never afraid of risks. Even the Kyrie trade could be called a risk and no matter what happens with Kyrie, I'll never regret that. You just move on to the next deal."
