One of the worst stat padders in the game


I always impressed by his box scores until I watched him. Then I watched butler leave saying he doesn't like playing with the selfish Minnesota players (aka towns and Wiggins)

I like him but don’t love him. I don’t know how we get him and don’t tread water. Now, if we could ADD him to Tatum and Brown, that’d be quite the summer. Looks like we won’t be contenders for at least another couple years though and by then, who knows if guys like JT and JB would wanna stick around

I don't consider him a young big anymore. He has been in the league 4 years, finished his rookie deal and is on a max contract. He is a vet. Markkanen for me is the best young big man in the league today.

So I went with the second option. I think people soured on him because (1) he had a terrible playoff series. (2) his defense is dodgy. I think there has been too big a reaction (an overreaction) to those two things. The defense shows flashes of quality and is fixable. He likely will never be an All-League defender but he can become a solid defender. He has shown that capability. He just hasn't been consistent enough yet. He had a horrid playoff series but so have many others and they have recovered from that.

So I went with the 2nd option because I think Minny have done him a major disservice by putting Towns alongside a second big man (Dieng, Taj Gibson) so often. They are not making the most of his offensive skill-set. Towns is such a matchup problem and can stretch out a defense so well. Minny are bailing out of the opposition by putting an easy to defend option next to them that allows them to clog the paint and make things difficult for Towns other teammates (shrink the floor defensively). Towns would be lethal in a proper offensive setup geared for today's league.

I think Towns can become a player capable of being the best player on a Title winning team. And if he doesn't, who cares! He is still awesome and puts Boston closer to winning a title than they are today.

I prefer Anthony Davis. I always have. Because of his superior quickness on both ends of floor. It allows him to make a greater variety of both offensive and defensive plays. However, after Davis, Towns is my favourite alternative.

I read somewhere that Butler actually left because he thought Minnesota was going to renegotiate his contract as soon as he got there. When that didn't happen, he threw a hissy-fit and forced a trade, blaming the young players for his actions.

Towns stats are basically what you would expect from a very good player on a crappy team.

I voted option 2. Davis is preferable as his defensive abilities are better, he's less turnover prone and foul prone and he gets significantly more free throws, which is a big area of weakness for us. However, if we could get Towns I would be ecstatic.

It's not an exaggeration to say Towns has one of the most multi-faceted offensive games from a big man we've ever seen. He's a 40%+ shooter from three, 50%+ from the field and hits the mid-80% mark from the charity stripe. He also nightly gets you a dozen rebounds. He's not the best defender, but he's shown room for improvement, and as Who said, I think people still overreact from his one bad playoff showing.

He also showed what he's capable of in the post-All Star Break part of the season, where his numbers became simply ridiculous. 28 - 13.4 - 4 on 53/43/81 shooting. He's still a bit turnover prone and foul prone as I said, but he's incredibly durable and hasn't been given a fair shake due to the garbage roster construction in Minnesota

His durability makes up for the gap in TOs and FT rate compared to AD imo, availability is the best ability to have as a player (especially for a team with championship aspirations), and him being quite a bit younger on a long term extension is also very attractive.

You're not wrong, but that's what also makes me think he'd be less available

Absolutely, as I said I believe we can only get him if we give up both Brown and Tatum, which I have vehemently opposed in any deal for one superstar.

He isn't available and probably cost more than Davis
