If we could trade James Young and a 2nd rounder for a future 1st, I'd probably do that.

This team is on its way to become a regular playoff team.  The only way we will get decent draft picks is through trading assets.  Like the way we obtained the Nets and Mavs picks for example.

Nothing against Young, but I feel this team is unlikely to have minutes for youngsters in the near future because we are on the road to being contenders, and can't play youngsters unless they have superstar potential.

For example if we land pick #1 or #2 and draft Ingram or Simmons, we'll find ways to play them.  If we land pick #3 and draft Dragan Bender... I question if he will even be with the team and getting minutes to develop.  He'd probably be left overseas at least a year to ripen.  At that point it's better to make a play for either Cousins, Griffin, or Butler.

Idk. I've been higher on Young than most around here, but he had a rough year.

There was a point around the first GSW game where he was finally establishing a little traction. He played key minutes in the game, didn't look totally lost defensively, and made a few nice plays. Brad trusted him in OT in that game, and they always talk about how much they like him.

But even in Portland he wasn't the same last year. A d-league coach said last year that he was "the best player he had ever seen in the NBDL". But he didn't dominate he way he did last year. Maybe it has to do with Mickey, RJ and Rozier going there but c'mon, this is the d-league.

It's certainly not good that this team lacks wing depth, suffered a Crowder injury, and Young still didn't get much time. Smart went to the 3, and Rozier played a lot instead. Still, he's the youngest guy on the team, so I won't give up on him completely yet. But it just doesn't seem like there's a place for him here, and I'm starting to resign myself to him never amounting to much.

Maybe he pulls a Gerald Green and takes 8 years to get into a rotation.

Well, James is on a cost controlled contract and has the potential. This coming season should be a HUGE one for him.

his roster spot is more valuable than his salary and that's why I say he is gone next year. This team is going to need that roster spot. A contending playoff team can only have so many roster spots given over to developmental youth. Young had two years so his spot is going to be needed for someone else.
