Jeff Goodman said on WEEI this morning that the C's have a lot of interest in David Lee. There are also reports that the NYK are expected to talk to Ray Allen. The knicks were never going to resign Lee anyways because they want room forr 2 max free agent, so wouldn't this trade make some sense

Bos sends: Ray ( 3 yr 24 mil) + future pick

NYK sends: Lee  ( 4 yr 40mil +)

Could the plan be...

PP opts out and signs a 15 mil per year extension

Mike Miller is signed with te MLE

This way the C's would stay away from going way over the luxury cap, they get front court help, and sign a very good replacement for Ray with Mike Miller

I

That doesnt work for the knicks because they're bringing in cap space, and they need to rescind the rights of Lee to sign their free agents. This trade idea is impossible unless the Knicks dont get their free agents, in which case, they wouldnt want Ray

Right now Lee is 14 million hold. If they trade him for Ray on an 8 million dollar deal (they can make it four years to work) - they'd get to sign another guy for top money (16 per) and then have enough left over (10-12) to make a run at someone else.

I think the Curry idea makes more sense for the NYK though:

They could basically renounce Lee and shed Curry, and get Ray at 8 million (and maybe a role player has to come in to make it work) - but that gets them an asset or two in place of Curry's dead contract. How can they sweeten it for BOS though?

That is completely wrong. He's only a 10 mil cap hold. This would be a disaster for the knicks who want TWO max contracts. They dont want joe johnson and ray allen.

So what if he doesn't like playing C? I'm sure he can suck it up for a couple more months until Perkins gets back. He doesn't want to sack up and play center for a contender for half a season after playing with the Knicks his whole career, then he isn't the type of competitor I want on this team.

That would be KG that doesn't want to play C.

Lee is the guy that is to small to play C on a good team.

what about lee being a dave cowens type of guy? i never really saw cowens play but it is listed at center at 6'9" and has 2 rings.
The difference was that Cowens was an All-League defender whereas David Lee is a liability defensively.

How do you know this? He hasn't been on a team that plays defense or even rebounds?? Plus, the C's play so much help defense, he wouldn't be asked to take on other better centers one on one every game. I don't want to diminish what Cowens did over his career, but everyone knows the league didn't start calling fouls until 1984 when Jordan came to town. Hell, Robert Parish PUNCHED LAIMBEER IN THE FACE and didn't even get called for a foul.

I honestly think that unless we're facing Howard, Lee would be fine on defense. He'd solve our rebounding woes and while he's stats are padded, I still think the kid is a great player.

Again, can someone please explain to me why NY does this sign and trade?  Lee is off the books, so trading him offers them no financial incentive.  Signing and trading Lee for Ray and straight up signing Ray puts them in the exact same financial position.  Given that fact, why would they want to make that trade with only what looks to be a mid-to-late first round pick?  All that does is help a division rival.

You're right, it would have to be

Bos sends : Ray + Sheeds contract

NYK sends: Lee + Curry(13 mil expiring)

This would give the Knicks room to sign 2 max free agents and add Ray Allen too.

I posted this on the 1st page

By partaking in a sign and trade, NY Knicks could give Ray Allen pay raises of 10.5 per cent as opposed to 8 per cent per annum, based on the first year salary.  A sign and trade would allow the NY Knicks greater cap flexibility in its quest to sign two maximum wage free agents, even as it gives Ray Allen an identical package over three seasons.

I only think the Knicks would do this if they knew they were not going to get Lebron, Bosh, or Wade. If they had to "settle" for a Joe Johnson or Boozer, then they might do this deal just to get a shorter contract in. But it'd have to be more than just Ray. Probably Ray, a 1st rounder, and a player. They'd probably ask for Davis since that 1st rounder will only be a pick in the 20's. For Lee, I would be willing to do that. Sign Lee for 4 years at 12-13 mil per with an option for a 5th year and there's Garnett's replacment and a bonafide All-Star caliber PF for the next 5 years.

It's the best type of trade since it helps the team this year and in the future. Then we sign Mike Miller for the MLE and hope Brad Miller takes the vet minimum for a chance at a ring. If not, bring in a guy like Ilgauskas who will have no choice but to play for the vet min.

Our rotation would look like this:

Rondo/Nate or vet min.

Mike Miller/Tony/Bradley

Pierce/Mike Miller/Harangody

Lee/Harangody

Garnett(til Perk comes back)/Brad Miller or Big Z/Parakhouski or Erden

That's a beast of a front court, especially when Perkins comes back. And a nice mix of young and old.

The C's would have to take Curry for the Knicks to be interested, I think.

Curry has been a waste of space, talent, and money for years, but this is his contract year so if he's ever going to play worth a dang this is the year he'll do it.

I feel like people are too quick to give away Ray. I think we will try to keep Ray. In doing so our option for Lee become 1. Sign him to the MLE (unlikely). 2. Sign and trade with the Knicks where we give up Sheed + Gaff +Laffyette and a 1st for him.

Lee isn't ideal at the 5 but he could be serviceable until Perk got back. Lee is the perfect compliment to Rondo. Runs the floor can jump real high and can shoot. Plus he'll clean up on the glass, an area the C's really could use help in.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
