Stevens has done a crap job. One of the worst coaching jobs in the entire NBA this season.

What was he supposed to do with this crap team?
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

I think it is fine statement, he knows the team shut him out at times and did not respond at half time a lot which is where a coach can put his stamp on a game and make adjustments.   We used to be good at that but it did not happen this year.

Our guys did not shut out CBS until Kyrie,   we became a "me" team.  It is the leadership style he learned from LeBron.

Changes that need to happen and growth I would like to see in Brad.

1)   Small ball must die, bigs have value and routinely crush your system.
2)  Implement something where we do not take as many jumpshots and live and die by the three, drives are good.
3)   Realize that defensive rebounding is important, we got killed on the boards all year
4)   Remember it is ok, to show fire sometimes and your not the coaching version of Mr. Rogers.
5)   Quit trying to conserve young guys when they are hot and ride their hot shooting to victory.

Kyrie is gone. That’s what it means.

It also probably means there is tension between CBS and DA because I bet CBS wanted to bench Kyrie.

Then Brad should be kicked off the bench.

Yeah, let's spoonfeed PG Rozier (worst playoff rotation player in the NBA) minutes for the entire year and playoffs, but bench PG Kyrie, the only consistent threat on the team.

Idiocy.

Stupid Rose rule hurt this team.  Would have cured alot of ills if they could have traded tatum, morris, rozier, filler and picks for AD mid season.  Too many players that wanted/deserved more minutes than they were getting.  KInd of like in football, if you have 2 QB's than you have none.  Too much talent at about the same level can be a bad thing.

I think it means Brad never could get them to buy into what he was trying to implement.

I think he's acknowledging that it was obvious to him from early on in the season that the degree of difficulty this year was going to be very, very high. He's also acknowledging that he failed to rise to that challenge.

I watched pretty much the whole season. What I saw with Brad started in the second game of the preseason. I saw players proud of themselves taking the night off. I was waiting for Brad to call time out and ream them out. He didn't. That's where the players on this team knew they could take nights off and coast.  All season this team never played with a full roster. Players where out often with illness etc. Kyrie was the leader of this. I mean come on! I work full time and never miss work. This was their undoing.

The team who won preached ubunto and played with desperation all year.  This team didn't and it caught up to them. The Bucks were motivated all year because they lost. It is on Brad as he should have predicted to them the consequences and he didn't. This is on him.  Kyrie caught the LeBron disease.

Stevens on the team's lack of fight: "That's what eats at me the most. We cracked more than we should have. We need to be better than that. I'll be the first to say that this is the most trying year I've had as a coach. I did a bad job. If the team doesn't fit, that's on you."

I know most people will focus on the lack of fight or Stevens blaming himself (which anyone would do after this season), but not me.  I think the most telling part of the quote is what’s been obvious all along.  The fit of these players is awful.  Too many dominant ball guys, few complimentary  guys, streaky shooters.

Nope, while BS is technically falling in the sword, he’s telling you this team was doomed from the start.

Well to be fair, he was right, he did do a I would say VERY bad job this year. Also I think the fit of these guys wasn't great, but I'm not sure it mattered. Say you swapped out Hayward with a pure shooter (like Reddick), Rozier with a competent backup point who would distribute the ball, and Morris with  a lower volume 3 and D wing (like what we all want semi to be). That team would fit much better, but it still wouldn't come close to beating the bucks. Ultimately we need more Talent.  Ultimately we need to trade for a 1a like Davis, need Kyrie to play like a 1b (instead of whatever trash he was this round), and need one of whatever Jay is left or Hayward to play like a 3rd banana. In other words, we need better top end talent.

Bingo

What's bizarre is we played so well in game 1. That was just 10 days ago. Seriously, how could a team regress so badly over the course of 10 days and only 4 games?

Game 1 was an aberration.

Stevens has done a crap job. One of the worst coaching jobs in the entire NBA this season.

No other coach would have done a better job.

Well maybe except for Doc.

I tend to think boston would have struggled to get out of the first round if the Pacers would have had Vic healthy and playing.

I don't know about that. They kept playing the same style with the same players in the rotation and on top of that the team quit on him. I'm not saying they're necessarily better coaches than Stevens, but I'm sure there are  a few coaches who could have at least gotten the team to play harder. Maybe a change in style would have worked, maybe not but Brad didn't even really try to shake things up.
