Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo offered a grudging respect to the Boston Celtics for their level of physicality through the first two games of their second-round NBA playoff series against Milwaukee.

"You can play to the limits of fouling," Antetokounmpo said Wednesday, per Yahoo Sports' Vincent Goodwill. "They definitely play to the limits of [flagrant] fouling. Now, you gotta f--king play. You can't complain to the refs; you gotta play."

Unbelievable.

I'm really starting to hate Giannis, because I used to love how humble and no fooling around mentality, ("I don't care about being best friends in the NBA,") but man... Argh

I liked him too, but the NBA is looking like it's trying to put him "over" much like the WWE does with new talent.

This doesn't sound the least bit critical of the Celtics and he says the right move isn't to cry but to play through it, but I'm glad to see the knives coming out for an opponent for once.

I think he was complimenting the Celtics for their physical play.

  • Yup
Guy comes in like a whirling dervish with arms and legs flailing and if he happens to flail into a defender they get called for a foul.  Gets 4 steps on every drive to work with.  Flagrant my buttocks.
Yup

Does anybody else consider it weird that the key word in that sentence - flagrant - is one the writer added? It's in brackets because Giannis didn't put it there!

I don't know what he did say or what this quote means. Somebody at BR is looking to stir things up.

It's all posturing to try to influence the referees. Not that he needs any more help.

Good point.  We have no idea what Giannis was trying to say without knowing the word that he actually used.

Well, hope this is bulletin board material for the Celtics so they can come out and play it rough on those folks in Game 3. It's playoff atmosphere, get real. And about whining to refs, I thought the Bucks were great at that skill.

Did not realize that when I read the headline. If Giannis never used the word 'flagrant' then I have no issue with his comments. We do push the limits of fouling, Horford is one of my favorite players in the league, but I think he gets to defend with a physicality that other players aren't allowed to. Of course nothing even close to the definition of a flagrant foul.

If the word 'Flagrant' was really added by the writer and then used in a headline, well then BR = Fake News

This is called lobbying in the press to try to influence the refs in the next game - smart playoff practice - something that I wish our coach would start doing.

Huh? What about Giannis gets to play with a physicality that only Lebron is allowed to play with.
