He will always be better in my heart.   I liked Wade until I learned how dirty he was and then I soured on him.   I recall him dominating UK the year he was drafted.

Me too. The hate between the Celts and Heat from 2010 and on still lives with Paulie. And to me, DWade will always be a punk for his cheap shots and colluding with Lebron and Bosh to form their little trio. I'll always look at him as the enemy.

The Truth.

Always thought Wade (and his career) was vastly overrated.

This^
Sorry to the Wade supporters. Wade was really good, (really dirty player) not a PG but more of a combo guard. Paul was all-world for much of his career in Boston. It's close but Paul gets the nod. IMO

Here is perhaps my favorite Paul Pierce video - celebrating his championship season.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2aZTzcHYBI

When he dunked on not only PRIME MARCUS CAMBY but like 3 other Nuggets that shows off his athleticism.

When The Captain got rolling there wasn't anything stopping him - he could post up, hit from deep, defend in the post, defend on the perimeter, facilitate.....

In DWade's defense here is a NASTY dunk on Anderson Varejao....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OkP5_1qb7Y

Body to body and all LOL............just devastating.

League-wide recognition be danged these two fine players were a LOT closer talent-wise than many think. Again - I'll give a SLIGHT edge to Wade athletically but not by much.

The ESPN echo chamber certainly accomplished their goal.

I'm not sure what Pierce was supposed to do/say in that situation.   He was put between a rock & a hard place.

I also think it's a very compelling & close debate.

These are the career best seasons (as if they had them all in one season)

Wade - 30.2 p, 7.5 a, 6.4 r, 2.2 s, 1.3 b, 58.8 TS%, 30.4 PER, 14.7 WS, 10.7 BPM, 9.7 VORP

Pierce - 26.8 p, 5.1 a, 7.3 r, 2.1 s, 1.0 b, 62.0%, 23.6 PER, 12.9 WS, 4.9 BPM, 5.7 VORP

Here are some awards and high level award finishes

Wade - 13 all star, 8 All NBA (2 1st, 3 2nd, 3 3rd), 3 2nd Team All Defense, 2 top 5 MVP, 5 other top 10 MVP

Pierce - 10 all star, 4 All NBA (1 2nd, 3 3rd), 1 top 10 MVP

I mean looking at the breadth of the career bests and all of the yearly awards it is pretty darn hard to say that Pierce had a better career.  I mean objectively it is basically impossible, and frankly I'm not sure you can honestly use subjective standards either.  Wade was just flat out better than Pierce.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Wade was a better player.  More rings, more personal accolades, better stats.

I love Pierce, but there just isn’t much of a case here.

It’s closer than people think. Wade usually gets the benefit of the doubt because he is a media darling. That being said, I will agree with Pierce about the Shaq/Lebron thing. He’s 100% right there and that is a failure of the Cs management. The best players Pierce ever played with prior to 32 year old KG/Allen was.....(looks twice)... Antoine Walker and Eric Williams????

if KG doesnt get injured in 2009 or Perkins doesnt tear his acl in the finals who knows how many championships Pierce has?

Other than that magical 2008 season we had some bad luck with injuries that derailed our run with the big 3
Agree with all of the above. Point is, Pierce didn’t get a chance to play with the KG type talent until he was 30. The one year he had an MVP type caliber KG, they won a title. The next year they were steam rolling teams until KG hurt his knee. Year three they lost in the finals with a Gino’s KG and no Perk.

Year four, Danny trades away our one advantage over our competitors (physical interior) in an ignorant attempt to match Miami's athleticism.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

I know this thread is a day old or so now, but this storyline has become really hilarious.

Nobody is talking about how Wade is in all likelihood a week away from having his career ended. Instead, everyone is concerned with debating who is better - The Truth or The Flash.

Hilarious. Completely derailed the farewell tour. Thank you Captain!

My theory is that he gets a bit bored and just loves to stir the pot. Or at least that's what I like to believe

Could Wade cover Lebron?

Pierce could.

Wade couldn't shoot well the first third of his career. Paul was always a triple threat.

Wade got Shaq, like, second season?  Pierce's first decade was spent on crap teams and non-contenders. Went to the playoffs once under an interim head coach even.

It's hard to get noticed for accolades when your team blows. Or when you get shut down because your team is tanking. Dude, we sucked.

Pierce was more versatile. More skilled. A closer as much as anyone.
