Busy.

AD to BOS trade rumors are not going to stop until he's traded.

trade rumors involving four or three firsts, for AD or otherwise

Kyrie Rozier Morris free agency, Horford player option

There will be a few phases:

1. Draft time -- AD trade rumors
2. June 29 -- player option deadline -- Al Horford rumors
3. Moratorium time -- Kyrie Irving rumors
4. Early FA -- Terry Rozier, Marcus Morris, Aron Baynes

My prediction is that once we're past the draft and the very beginning of the free agency period, things will be relatively quiet.  But it'll be insane for a few weeks before that.

If Boston picks on draft night look weird, that's the first sign we have reached a deal with NO to trade for Davis.  Deal has to go down before the draft I would think.

Which means Kyrie will have to at least privately assure Celtics that he will re-sign with them. If not, then there will likely be no Davis trade.

So it seems like most everything (Kyrie and Davis) will be known by June 20th.

Relatively quiet.

Bring back Kyrie, let Rozier and Morris walk, sign or draft some backup PG, sign an MLE PF or C (my preference is someone like Robin Lopez or similar), make 1 more draft selection, trade the other one for additional future picks, and then hope in the offseason Hayward gets to 100% (so that he can start more frequently and get back closer to his old self again) and roll with the team next season.

PG: Kyrie/?/Wanamaker
SG: Brown/Smart/?
SF: Tatum/Ojeyele/?
PF: Hayward/Theis/?/Yabusele
C: Horford/Baynes/MLE/Timelord

The ?'s are all filled out with draft acquisitions or other depth signings in the summer, so the roster will definitely look a lot better and more complete once those things are done (it's just hard to predict who those players are and will be exactly right now).

Does Kyrie stay if we dont get AD?  maybe if we do well in the playoffs.

Davis deal gets done, but not for as much of a cost as people think.

Morris and Rozier are both shown the door.

Horford re-ups contract for longer but for less.

Kyrie signs

Starters:
Irving
Brown
Hayward
Horford
Davis

Bench:
Baynes stays, Theis Stays (williams is part of the deal for davis), Wannamaker stays. Smart is 6th man. I think Danny keeps the Sacramento pick and gets his choice of Reddish and Little at that spot.

Taxpayer MLE: Beverly
LLE: Vince Carter.

Bench:
Beverly/Wannamaker
Smart/Vince
Reddish/Semi
Theis
Baynes

Search the scrap heap for another vet bigman.
If you show Morris and Rozier the door and keep Hayward, Brown, Smart, and the Sacramento pick, where exactly are you getting the $22-25 million in salary(depending if Davis decides to wave his trade kicker) to ship out to New Orleans to complete the trade?

Tatum, Yabusele, Williams, and 3 picks for starters, once we know exactly what that salary is, the rest could in theory be made up from using this years MLE, or by S&T Terry or Morris to a 3rd team.

Its not impossible to make the deal without including Smart in there.
we DO know the salary and Tatum, Yabu and Williams doesn't even come close to what's needed.  Neither does adding the salary of all 4 draft picks this year (if we get 4).

I'm not sure.  It does seem that the Celtics will probably have the best trade package to offer.

One tricky thing about it is that the trade discussions will almost certainly occur around the time of the draft.  Yet at that point in time the Celts won't have any definite assurances from Kyrie as to whether Kyrie will sign a long term deal with the Celts.

Of course, he might provide that assurance to them informally, behind the scenes.

A question I have is whether the Celts will be OK giving up a huge haul for AD if Kyrie won't commit to signing a long term deal as opposed to a short term deal with an opt out after a year or two.  Personally I wouldn't give up a bunch of assets for one year of AD if I wasn't sure Kyrie would sign a 4-5 year deal.

I also wouldn't be shocked if the Pelicans end up keeping AD for the last year or his contract, just to call his bluff.  Or perhaps they will decide to trade him for a package built around a more established player, instead of a bunch of young players and picks.  Similar to what the Spurs did with Kawhi.

We all know what Kyrie has told the media. I'm very curious to know what he's told Danny in private.

Your assumption that the Celtics won't already have "definite assurances" from Kyrie before the draft is a terrible assumption. Ainge is a shrewd business man. He will absolutely, without a doubt, have "definite assurances" of Kyrie's willingness to be a long term Celtic before a deal with New Orleans goes down.

Quick question: on what date is a player officially a free agent?
Is it the day after they are eliminated from the playoffs ?

For example: when is Kyrie officially off his contract.  We are unable to trade for AD with Kyrie under contract.  So on which date can we trade for AD?

No offense to anyone, but I'm gonna go with option 3: I don't really care.

When we're promised fireworks, we don't get fireworks (not for several years, anyway). When something finally does happen, it backfires via injuries (Kyrie and Hayward) or lack of chemistry (Kyrie and the young guys). Even if the Cs get Davis, he tends to be a bit injury prone, and may be gone after only one season anyway.

And given how this season has gone, my consequently lowered expectations for this season's team, and the likelihood that the Celtics will continue to see high turnover for at least one more season, I'm not expecting anything truly special from the Cs until at least next year's postseason, maybe not even until the year after that.

Players that have player options on their contract have until June 29th to opt into/out of the last year of their contract and can start doing so as soon as their season has finished.

I mean, I'm not sure how 'definite" it can be when Kyrie literally won't be allowed to sign an actual contract yet.

Yes, I am aware that handshake, wink-wink deals get made all the time, but I'm not sure I would trust Kyrie's camp on anything like that until the time has actually come to sign and he puts his name on the line, so to speak.

I get it.

This general sense of dejection and not trusting that the team will live up to expectations, or that players that we like right now will still be on the team in six months, really eats into any kind of emotional attachment and/or any strong optimism related to the team.

That's why my #1 desire would be to see the team finally settle down with a core group of players who are locked up long term and that the franchise commits to building around for the next few years, at least.  I'm so tired of fireworks always being right around the corner, the line always being "Well, if you don't like the team now, just wait because we might pull off a major deal and upgrade again!"

As I've said plenty of times recently, I'd take a stable, likable, disciplined, well-coached, non-dysfunctional team with a lower ceiling over a volatile, star-laden, constantly-griping team that is frequently bad and annoying but is talented enough to keep people hoping that they might finally figure it out.  Following a team like that makes me feel like a fan of the Knicks or Lakers or Wizards.
