why does the narrative keep changing against Kyrie?

Small players dont win championships? No single player wins any championship in the past 30 years.

So lets look at teams that have won the last 20 championships and look at their starting pg.

GSW - Steph 6foot3
GSW
Cleveland - Kyrie 6foot3
GSW
SAS - Parker 6foot2
Miami - Chalmers 6foot2
Miami
Dallas - Kidd 6foot4
LAL - Fisher 6foot1
LAL
Boston - Rondo 6foot1
SAS
Miami
SAS
Detroit - Billups 6foot3
SAS
LAL
LAL
LAL
SAS
Bulls - Harper 6foot6

The notion that you cannot win with a "small" pg is foolish.

And the notion that Irving has to, or cannot be the one, who can win finals MVP because of his size is incorrect as well.

If a player impacts his team winning the finals more than anyone else on the team....that player will get the MVP award.

Size does not matter in relation to this, it is an award given to impact.  If Boston wins the finals this season, and Kyrie continues to put up big numbers with everyone else on the team doing middling contributions, then Kyrie will win the MVP award.

You are missing the point. Small guards don't win championships. You need a Durant, Lebron, Leonard, Kobe, Pierce, etc....

Until we get someone like that, we aren't winning a championship.

Steph amd billups say no to that.

You win with talent

Get enough of that and you win it all.

Team has a glut of at times underperforming wings and oft injured bigmen

Give kyrie a consistant shooter and defender on the wing spot. Someone who can consistantly score with him and a couple bigmen who can defend and stay healthy and no problems.

He’s a poor fit with Russell.

Nets lack cache of Knicks in NY.

Bondy is a lifelong troll.

Nothing to see here.

The problem with articles like this is that they blur -- purposefully -- the line between reporting on objective facts, and relaying sensible conjecture.

Got two knowledgeable people (or even just one) who think's it's logical for Kyrie to think about the Nets this offseason? Boom. You've got an article and clicks. And technically speaking, you haven't violated journalistic ethics.

Regardless if true or not, I just find it remarkable that the Nets and Clippers are more desirable destinations than the Knicks and Lakers right now. What a time!  :P

Kyrie has been shut down in this series so far. This is the problem with small guards. Teams actually play defense in the playoffs. The best thing to have is someone bigger who can score like Lebron, Durand, Leonard, Giannis, etc...

I know I'm going to get a lot of hate and flack for saying this... but are we sure Pierce is on the level of those 4 other guys mentioned? That seems like a bit of a drop off after listing those 4 and then Pierce  :P

  • What a Pub Should Be
If we don't sign Kyrie, we have already lost.  IF we didn't want to sign him, we should have traded him.  No matter what you think of him, losing him for nothing is not a good strategy.

Signing him is better unless he blows out his knee or something like that, which is a risk for most any player.

Pretty much.

Danny made his own bed with this.  Like him or hate him, letting Kyrie walk puts this organization in a worse position in the near term. The AD pipedream goes out the window   then you're praying that Hayward finds his own form back and crossing your fingers that the kids hit their ceiling potential.   They really need to try and convince Kyrie to stay.

Otherwise, you'll be looking at a team that will be taking significant steps back in the near future with much lower ceiling.

Funny, when a thread was started saying Durant was going to New York, I theorized that maybe it makes more sense if Durant and/or Kyrie or anybody would be better off going to the Nets because they have a solid playoff nucleus which would be great to have with a superstar or two. Now reports say Durant might consider LAC and the Nets and Kyrie might consider Brooklyn.

Lol.

Irving for Russell would ya do it

If we couldn't keep Kyrie and he chooses Brooklyn, then definitely. At least we get something.

Could the 2 teams do a double sign and trade?

If he is seriously considering leaving, then of course he would absolutely consider the Nets.  Why wouldn't he?

If I were in his shoes and he considers leaving, I would think Brooklyn would be a more attractive choice. They're a team trending upward with a good coach and a decent young core. They've also recovered very well after their disastrous trade with the Celts back in 2013. The Knicks on the other hand are doing nothing more than living on a prayer with their cap space and hopes of getting the #1 pick.

That said, the ideal scenario is Kyrie stays in Boston and we get Davis.

Come to think of it, I would love nothing more than if Kyrie stays in Boston (with a Davis trade in tow), Durant and Kawhi go to the Clippers, Kemba signs with Dallas and both the Knicks and Lakers are left with nothing.
