Ideally, yes, that will be the core going forward.

This season is proving that you absolutely can have 'too many mouths to feed', and that Ainge needs to consolidate some of the talent.

I would say it should be 3 of Kyrie, Tatum, Hayward and Brown.

Al doesn't need lots of shots to be effective, and everyone else is a tier (at least) below these guys.

Al is the best post up threat on the entire team and rarely gets his number called down low.  That's almost blasphemous, and one of the many reasons I turned on Brad. I just can't take it anymore.

If they forced the issue down low then it would free up the entire team to take easier shots all over the floor. If they go to Al one time and he's successful...why don't they keep going to him until they adjust?

It just makes no sense.

And if these dudes never play one on one defense...how are they ever gonna know how to slow anyone down? They don't even know how to angle people off a drive and make them kick it back out.

They're always gonna be a mediocre defensive team that looks like they're busy on defense, but really are inept at the whole concept.

The fact nobody in the whole Celtics organization has even whispered these things into Brads ear is what makes me give up entirely on his system. And this season for that matter.

And actually...they can't stop anyone off the dribble or even slow down anyone bringing the ball up court. It's just a recipe for disaster.

The reason why the Bucks are so tough is because Giannis wants to get to the rim and force it down your throat every single time, so their shooters are very loose.

This year that's the last team I wanna see in the playoffs

That's also why Kobe was so unstoppable playing with Shaq.

And quite frankly, Kyrie should know this by now and take it upon himself because he's the General on the floor

Terry Rozier, Marcus Morris, and nobody else matters.

That's what they think, anyway.

 ;D

Anyways, in the playoffs the real answer should be Kyrie - Tatum - Horford in that order.  Everybody else is just where the open shots are.   But who knows.

Yeah I agree, I didn't do the research of title teams but have said this for some time now.  Our offense frequently does things like prioritizing a Theis or Smart 3 pointer over a Kyrie iso, Horford postup or Tatum drive.  The right players aren't taking the shots, our best players aren't taking enough shots and probably often not the right type of shots, IE very few free throws and a lot of long jumpers.  This dive into history just adds fuel to the fire, IMO.

Bingo...and that's just on offense so escorting Morris and Rozier out the door is gonna change not one thing.

Not to mention that one random 3 by Theis keeps him from doing his rebounding job.

Basically big men are useless in Brad's system and actually hurt the team greatly.

I'm surprised Danny's Ok with this, after all he's seen on the court.

And I would bet 2 tp's that's one reason Kyrie plays his own game outside the system :)

This playoff Kyrie, Tatum then Brown with Horford or Hayward possibly being a 4th

Next year Davis, Kyrie, Brown with Horford or Hayward being the occassional 4th.

Based on how Hayward has fit in with this team so far, I'm a little surprised people think he's going to become a top 3 option.

At this point I'd be happy if he turned into a Joe Ingles clone.

Yeah I'm pretty much on board with giving Rozier and Morris Pom-poms and rolling with a tighter rotation. Ditching those chuckers in favor of better players and/or someone's who will play a role and stay within it.

Kyrie, of course, is on an all-NBA tier by himself on this squad.

And we have 2 more max guys who are paid that for a reason. We shouldn't let Horford not be aggressive offensively. Gord is rounding into form, though he may need encouragement to be aggressive.

And if these vets are carrying the load and handling the ball, they each can pass and make plays for others. Playing them together should make us a pretty good playoff team.

The nice thing with a trio like that is you can fit almost any 2 other players around them, but Smart and Baynes are perfect.

And yes, that leaves everyone else with a bench role, which is one heck of an all-rookie scale team. Among them, its clear Rozier wouldn't leave enough shots for anyone else.  Tatum and Brown are the (redundant) 6th man scorers. There are only enough shots for one of them. I guess I'd roll with Brown, Tatum, and Theis as my bench 3.

It would take stones to bench Rozier and Morris in contract years, but replacing them with Kyrie and Hayward is no insult.

Them not beating out Smart, Tatum, Or Brown might be.

The funny thing is Hayward is about as fast as Bird was in his later years with the same tools, but Bird was even more dominant than his younger years.

That's why I judge players by what's between their ears and in their heart. All "talent" is not the same. Atleast Danny saw that with Smart.

That's the main reason I don't see Hayward as some franchise player.

I just went through the past 25 champions to look at their shot distribution in the playoffs and the vast majority (even the 2004 Pistons) had 3 guys averaging 10+ shots.   Quite a few only had 2 guys averaging 10+ shots.  Very very rarely, a team would have 4 guys averaging 10+ shots.

2018 - 3 guys
2017 - 3 guys
2016 - 3 guys
2015 - 3 guys
2014 - 4 guys
2013 - 3 guys
2012 - 3 guys
2011 - 3 guys
2010 - 3 guys
2009 - 2 guys
2008 - 4 guys
2007 - 3 guys
2006 - 3 guys
2005 - 3 guys
2004 - 3 guys
2003 - 3 guys
2002 - 2 guys
2001 - 2 guys
2000 - 2 guys
1999 - 3 guys
1998 - 3 guys
1997 - 2 guys
1996 - 2 guys
1995 - 4 guys
1994 - 2 guys

Very often when it was 3 guys, you'd have 2 guys getting 15-20 shots and one guy barely cracking 10 shots.

...

Last season in the playoffs we had nearly 6 players taking 10+ shots:  Brown (14.7), Rozier (14), Tatum (13.7), Morris (11.7), Horford (10.7) and Smart (9.5).   This season, we're also trying to incorporate Kyrie and Hayward.  Despite having Hayward shoot 51%/44%/90% this month, there were 7 guys on the team who took more shots per game.

This idea that we can have 8 players sharing the ball with one another and equally taking shots is cute, but there's no real precedent of that working.   The team needs to pick their 3 guys and ride them.

Who are our 3 guys?
last year we didn't have a clear number one offensive player on the team so having that kind of distribution was understandable.  This year, I don't think it'll be as widespread as last year and I also think there's going to be a potential issue of who SHOULD be taking that many and who WILL be taking that many

This year SHOULD: Kyrie, Tatum, Al, Brown/Hayward.  I think whoevers hotter between Brown and Gordon will take more shots that particular game although I have difficulty picturing current Hayward taking 10 shots in a game.
This year WILL: Kyrie, Tatum, Morris, Rozier.  I think Morris and Rozier are going to be putting up a lot of shots that we'd rather see going to Brown, Al and Hayward.  I could be wrong but I think they'll have flashbacks to last year where they think they can/should be carrying the team's offense despite having more guys that can (or at least should be able to) score.

not throwing in the towel yet until they're officially knocked out of the playoffs but I really think the AD trade is going to happen and thin the roster down to a primary 4 of Kyrie, AD, Al and Hayward which will provide some real clarity in the pecking order next year.  The only roadblock I can see at this point is if AD refuses to consider resigning here and that impacts what Danny will offer (it should) and what NO will reasonably accept in trade.

The only way Boston is winning a title this year is if Hayward is back to his Utah days.
