Sixers panicked and now have to overpay two players that are not worth max $$.
This is good for us. We now know what Sixers ceiling is. It’s almost impossible now that we play them this playoffs because pacers won’t finish @3rd seed.

Agree.

Only way Celts face the Sixers is if the Celts end up the #1 seed.

Celtics could pass Raptors for #2 seed, and 76ers take the #3 seed.

Danny Ainge, time to force a move. Forget about Davis if he doesn't feel like coming here. The 76ers are scary good now.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
Why the **** we care about phillys roster?

This is a thread in the "Around the NBA" section where we discuss things around the NBA, like trades and free agent signings. This is a trade.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

And a trade that severely impacts the Celtics, so we should care.

Thinking about matchups - let's say we decide to keep Smart in the lineup but promote Brown as Morris' shooting fades.  Simmons/Redick/Butler/Harris/Embiid vs Kyrie/Smart/Brown/Tatum/Horford, who guards who?

My feeling is for us:

Kyrie on Redick
Smart on Butler
Brown on Harris
Tatum on Simmons
Horford on Embiid

Man, they're big! The other way seems trickier. Something like:

Butler on Kyrie
Redick on Smart (shooter vs shooter!  :D)
Harris on Brown
Simmons on Tatum
Embiid on Horford

Then on the bench it's like Rozier/McConnell, Baynes/Boban, Hayward/Korkmaz I guess?, Morris/Mike Scott? The ghost of Corey Brewer?

I think the bench thing is overblown. I assume they'll stagger minutes and they can theoretically keep two of their core four on the floor at all times.

I think they'll also pick up a buyout guy or two to make a lot of that moot. But they have one legit backcourt defender in Butler right now, who is also their best wing defender, where they have basically zero depth, and their 2 centers both have notorious endurance issues. It could add up in a playoff run.

If everybody stays healthy and they can make the fit work it could pan out for an ECF or even Finals run, but the margin of error is slim. Still a beast of a starting 5 though.

It'll be interesting to see if they can get the chemistry to click by the season's end. Putting Embiid, Butler and Simmons together certainly didn't create a superteam. Let's see if chucking Harris in there does it.

Really depends on if Harris (and everyone else on Philly) are willing to sacrifice and take diminished roles. Is Bret Brown the right guy to manage that many egos?

Yeah, Butler and Harris both in a contract year. I'm so glad they signed Marcus Smart to that extension. He really settled down and has played really well on that new contract. I thought it was an overpay at the time but if Marcus keeps up with this shooting and still plays his crazy good defense, Than he's on a bargain deal....

Brett Brown is an fantastic coach, but he sucks at managing disgruntled/star personalities. Embiid, Butler, and Simmons have all clamored for more minutes and better roles. Going to wait and see what happens when they add one more player in the mix. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they begin to implode.

Yep...we have been passed by Philly. If the C's wait until the summer then they better get Davis or they are still going nowhere.

Good post but I think Brown would be on Simmons and Tatum on Harris. I think Stevens likes Brown as an on ball defender better than Tatum and, when Philly makes Boston switch Kyrie onto Simmons handling the ball, Brown on Reddick is better than Tatum on Reddick.

To be fair, about a month ago a fellow Celtic fan downplayed Jayson Tatum (our 2nd best player) by calling him a poor man's Tobias Harris.  What's that mean if our 2nd best player is a poor man's version of Philly's 4th best player?  Just saying... it's all about perspective.

If that fan was right, we may as well blow up our team and start a rebuild. Considering though that when Harris was 20 years old in his second season he averaged 11 pts a game and shot 31% from three with as many turnovers as assists while a 19 year old Tatum carried a team to the eastern conference finals, maybe that fan should find a new hobby besides player comparisons?

Plot twist that was actually LaBrd33 and you've insulted him greatly....
