This is the weirdest Celtics team I've ever watched and I started watching in 1979. How do they play so well with their best player out?

This must be some type of mental thing where the players feel a need to step up. It's just amazing.

Something to think about. If Indy loses tonight(they are down over 20 right now) and tomorrow in Orlando, Philly loses at GSW tomorrow, Toronto beats Milwaukee at home tomorrow and Boston wins in NY, the by Friday night the C's would be tied with Philly in 3rd, 4.5 games behind Toronto.

Posted this in game thread. Figure it deserves to be put here.

Yep. The Celtics are right in it. After the season they've had, I'd be ok with 3rd place and think they have a good chance at making the Finals.

I don't expect Boston to finish above 3rd.  But I'm not worried about it either.  The last 30 games have me confident Boston is the best team in the east.  This team hasn't even played it's best basketball yet.

It's because Kyrie is the best player on the team but Horford is the guy that is at the heart of how they run the offense and how they coordinate on defense.  Smart has a major role in the defense, as well.

They aren't a better team without Kyrie, but they can still run things the way they want to run them with Rozier in Kyrie's place, and they're just as good defensively without Kyrie.

Kyrie takes them to another level and is the guy they need to take over at the end of close games against quality opponents.

With our win vs the Knicks we are now 4th seed and 3.5 games behind Toronto for No2!

Terry said something interesting the other day:

Quote
“When we play with him, it’s more like a show,” Rozier said. “We sit back and watch -- watch him go crazy. And without him, obviously we don’t know who the scoring’s really going to come from so somebody’s gotta step up. And we just try to find our way. But with or without him, we’re still trying to do good things.”

Do the Celtics watch Irving put on a show a little too much?

“I mean, he’s arguably one of the best offensive players in this game today,” Rozier said, smiling. "So however y’all want to put it. If y’all was out there, you’d all do the same thing.”

I'm 100% sure we are missing only Hayward to be no.1 favourite to go to NBA finals. I truly believe we will have the old Hayward until playoffs.

If we don't get Utah Hayward back by Playoffs, I fully expect him to be back next season, after a complete and uninterrupted off-season and preseason

lost in all the media mess is that the current #2 seed the raptors only has 3 less losses than us right now.

Philly is one loss ahead of us. If celtics can keep racking up wins and one or both of those teams hits a little slump we are right in the thick of things again.  Which is all you can ask for with how poorly we started this season and hovering around 5 spot for most of it

What it shows is how thin the line is between having a great season and a disappointing season, in the eyes of fans.

4 bad losses. That's it. 4 bad losses.

If Boston doesn't lose to the Suns, Knicks and twice to the Magic the Celtics are 37-15, one game behind Milwaukee, a half game ahead of Toronto on their way to a 59 win season.

So the Bucks, Raptors and Sixers haven't had bad losses too?

When did I mention whether or not those teams have or haven't had bad losses? When was I discussing  those team's seasons?

I was talking about the perception of how just a few losses can make people see the entire year look differently. That's it. Nothing about Toronto's, Philadelphia's or Milwaukee's wins or losses.
